These are nice pictures but in my opinion the distortion makes them unnacceptable. They look as if they could each have been taken further away and a more normal focal length used

Hi Andy,

If you've been to Honfleur, you would know that it would have been impossible to take them from further away - unless you wanted to fall into the harbour:eek:

These old buildings line the harbour, and the only way to have taken them was with a very wide angle lens.

The fact that there is hardly a vertical wall, anywhere in Honfleur, doesn't help a lot either:)

Minor adujstments

Minor they may be but I'm afraid these adjustments (perspective distortion, I guess) completely ruin a picture that wasn't all that great to begin with. The grossly distorted 2CV is simply unacceptable imho. I'd rather have the original converging lines than this.

Cheers,

Hi,

Is that opinion or fact??

These are nothing other than holiday snaps which I thought others may enjoy.

In all the years I've been posting on photo forums, I've never felt the need to be scathing about the quality of other members' pictures, though frankly I've seen some awful ones. If I don't like them, I don't comment.

Opinion, hence the "imho". I simply don't like the exaggerated colours which is why I felt it wasn't all that great. Others think differently ("I particularly like the rich colors") so... what's the problem? You can't please everyone so you got to please yourself. You think it was all that great? Fine, good for you, it's the only thing that matters.

If you take exception with my "criticism" you wouldn't last a minute in the German forum. As a matter of fact, the international forum is ridiculed over there for its almost mechanical applause for nearly every photo on display.

While I do feel that the German forum is overly sordid and acidic in its criticism I guess whoever posts a photo here should be able to take "I simply don't like it" from a fellow forum member.

Cheers,

I quite understand now. You didn't like the oversaturated colours. That's subjective critiscism which is fine, and acceptable. I didn't think the pics were 'great' at all - as I said, they were just simple holiday snaps.:)

You didn't actually say you didn't like it, you said it wasn't a great picture.

I actually welcome critiscism of anything that I post, and learn from the critiscism I receive - when others take the time and trouble to make the critiscism constructive.

Thanks for your comments:)

Doug

Dang, I actually meant to (clarify why I didn't like it). Thought I did, too, but unfortunately that was over in your other Honfleur (HDR) thread where I mentioned the candy colors. My bad.

Dieter,

If I tried to post on this forum, in anything other than English, my posts would be unintelligible.

Your posts have clarity and reason, and in what I presume to be your second language. You are to be congratulated!

Douglas, I can understand the controversy recorded above. Because the first two seem so strident I do prefer the last two images. #3 in particular has some interesting components including identifiable human interest.
