Summaron service - I'm not a happy bunny at all...

I have just paid Leica UK over £100 to service my 54 Summaron. It came back on Friday, and I took it for a trip across a Lakeland fell yesterday.

 

Today, the girl in the processing shop said "I'm afraid your shots are a bit blurry" (Technical term, that, "blurry".)

 

Seems to me that the Leica technician has forgotten to connect the focus ring to anything at all. Maybe he should spend more time fixing lenses, and less time selling binoculars at birding fairs. It's not as if it's hard to test the focus of a lens these days - why, I believe that Leica even have a digital body to which these things can be fixed.

 

So, another trip to MK required. I wonder if they will refund my postage and £9 processing cost...? It's just been throwing good money after bad with this one.

 

I wonder if I can fix it myself?

I have just done a check with some grease-proof paper, and the lens doesn't focus at any distance. So, it's not even as if it's been left stuck at its closest focus distance.

 

I wonder if all the glass has been put back in...

It's nicely blurry though... ;) Leica service here in the US seems to be completely overwhelmed with the M8 fiasco. I sent an M7 to get the VF replaced under warranty and they forgot about it. After several emails and a telephone call they found the cam, replaced the part and in all honesty, did a very good job (so far at least). I have a (second) 75/2 that is also under warranty but I'm not sending it in to Leica - can't afford the wait. I'll send it to a good independant tech and pay instead.

Well, if they didn't replace them, I'd expect the left-overs to be in the box ;)

 

It's a bit like working on an old car engine and having two bolts left over, I expect.

You've got a very nice lens to made artistic pictures yet. :D

 

More seriously, You have my deepest sympathy, it's a shame for a Leica technician to deliver his work like that.

....not to mention the pic you're showin' here is much better than many of my own posts on this ffffforum.....:D

 

Just send it back with a note asking to fix it and give your money back as a bonus for having you put up with this bulllllshhhh....the nerve ! ! !:eek:

They haven't exactly picked the right person to p*ss off, have they...?;)

 

This reminds me of the church clock that has stopped, vs. the one that is five minutes fast. At least the former tells the right time twice a day.

No, I know, but you would think that they have someone there who is at least peripherally aware of our little sand-box here, and made the connection with the name. You don't let down your core customer base, especially when you know they have a platform to express their disappointment...

Does anybody remember a photo book recently published (I think) all with out of focus pics?

 

I have 26 more like this... :)

 

It's a shame, because the colours look much better than before then lens went away.
