quietglow Posted February 15, 2022 Share #41  Posted February 15, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been using a 1969 Summaron 2.8 M as my main 35 for a couple of months now. I really like it. It's very sharp wide open and on up. It has a very nice moderate contrast that makes images very workable in post. I haven't shot film with it, but I suspect it would make a very nice b&w lens. Welcome, dear visitor! rramesh Posted February 17, 2022 Author Share #43 Â Posted February 17, 2022 (edited) Looking at a 35 f/3.5 that's been advertised locally. This is the un-goggled version. A bit pricey but the seller has indicated it being near mint condition and with a FOOKH, a SOOGZ and a HOOIV as part of the package. Will need to check it out. Anything to look out for besides the usual haze, dust etc.? Edited February 17, 2022 by rramesh

These are the haziest lenses around so just make sure you get a video with a strong light shining into the elements before buying.

Anything to look out for besides the usual haze, dust etc.? I'd expect some haze and of course dust, maybe look out for cleaning marks on the glass and fungus though. My copy has some haze which is common and probably reduces contrast a bit. Otherwise it's not an issue, I feel it's sharp enough for an antique lens, lower contrast adds to the vintage look or you can add contrast in post. My aperture ring was sticky and only had faint clicks until a cla, not sure if that's a make or break deal for you. I wanted a specific adapter with 6 bit engravings and I went through 4 copies of the adapter until I found one that screwed to the lens with proper alignment. Be prepared to test a few adapters out or splurge on a more expensive version.

Yes, Summaron 35 2,8, in good condition IS VERY GOOD!

rramesh Posted February 18, 2022 Author Share #52  Posted February 18, 2022 Just read about the new announcement from Voigtlander of the HELIAR 40mm f/2.8 Aspherical in both VM and LTM mount. I knew you were in Singapore when I read this 😂. if it is the one on carxxxxl, it looks nice but unless you need the extra items or interested in as collector, it is really expensive. I just ordered mine ex++ from Tamarkin for less than half the price including delivery… (It is the e39 version so I won’t need any of the accessories ).  Edited February 18, 2022 by Aryel

Very interesting but I'm partial to 35mm. If this was a 35 it would be a no brainer for me. Looks great and I'm sure the rendering will be nice too. It also pairs very well with a M9 and I'm pretty sure it would be the same with slide film. Summaron 35 2.8 shines particular in close distances and portraits. It is magic on B&W, very difficult to put it in words. It has richness, compared to Summicron v4 (wonderful on color film) the Cron doesn't capture the greyscale as the Summaron. Now I do not post private Portraits, but I can add some pictures of City and landscape, but as I said, it is very special for portraits in close distances.  Welcome, dear visitor! shinobi2012 Posted March 17, 2022 Share #57  Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) As for colors, it gives a "National Geographic of the 60s" look, don't know if that term makes sense. But Summaron renders warmer than Summicrons for an example. Welcome, dear visitor!
