Nikonian233 Posted February 11, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m fighting very hard against the temptation to add a 🔴 to my camera arsenal. All I can afford is a D-Lux 7…with that said I have looked at several images taken with said camera and frankly, while pretty good, I haven’t been overly impressed. All my other cameras, from the lowly Panasonic GX7 to the mighty Sony A7III and everything in between can do as good or better. I keep reading about the “magic” of Leica lenses images…My question Is: other than the pleasure of owning a Leica (rebranded no less) is there any reason to buy such a camera? Any and every opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

jaapv Posted February 11, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2022 Leica has indeed some mystique and the Dlux7 is indeed a pretty good camera - but the Leica secret sauce is the lenses. So either buy the Leica lens of your choice to use on your Sony -not all of them work optimally but many do, our members can advise you- or buy a cheap used T series camera and 18 mm, and use that for a "real" Leica combo.
M11 for me Posted February 11, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2022 Why not going for the Lumix at almost half the price? Their body is even made more ergonomically.
Geoff777 Posted February 11, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2022 All you can afford today is the DL7 (I have one). Why not save up, sell some of your other gear and aim for the Q2 - that is an impressive piece of kit!

Why not save up, sell some of your other gear and aim for the Q2 - that is an impressive piece of kit! This would be 7 to 8 times the price of the Lumix. And what is that for? For a camera 🤣. I wonder if these are the right priorities: I want a red dot camera but I can not afford one. And a Lumix at half price I do not want even though its like the Leica. I want the Leica even though it is a Lumix. Plus the Lumix saw some developments recently whereas the Leica which is a Lumix saw none. So Leica is an old Lumix. An old Lumix with the red dot. fotofool Posted February 11, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) You also might want to consider a used X series camera. The cost is on par with the D-Lux 7 but it has larger sensor, is not just a rebranded Panasonic and has a really exceptional genuine Leica lens. Although I have many expensive cameras I often choose my X (type 102) as a "walking around" camera.

HpS Posted March 5, 2022 Share #9 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) With the D Lux 7 you get a zoom with a decent combination of Wide to Tele that is difficult to find in other makes. What you will get most is the quality of Leica Optics. Undoubtedly that is super. Fuji makes very good mirrorless cameras too I am told. You could compare the two and take a call.
