I observe some slowness with the shutter in single shot mode and I would like to see if anyone else is seeing the same.

Here are my settings:

I have my camera set to single shot mode, LV off and I set manual exposure and WB so that the camera does not have to do any calculations between each shot. Also auto review is off. I am at the latest firmware.

if I then fire one shot, release the shutter and then try to fire another one immediately, the camera does not take a shot, as if it is not ready. I can only take one shot every one second approximately, which feels slow.

if I engage LV the lag between consecutive shots in single mode becomes smaller, but it is still not instantaneous.

Do you see the same? Is this expected behaviour? Thanks

Leica wants you to slow down and enjoy it, you paid so much for this camera and you want to take it running?

BTW I have look up on B&H the most expensive full frame 35 mirrorless camera is. Yes you have guessed correctly  M11. M10R too

kidding a side, I see the same behavior on my M11, but not on the M10-R. It is not normal and I think it is bug in firmware. if you turn on LV you can see the same behavior , but you can also notice a green eye appearing when you push down the shutter. I would conclude that the shutter Botton movement has been recorded, it just don't take a photo.

When you got the M11 in the grey box there was a Leica sticker on it. that was not there any other time.. if you look under the red label  there is an orange label with the writing on it: " beta firmware installed , please update the firmware before sale"

Sounds like and intern at leica had to open every box and update the firmware before they get IT to costumer, and putting on the red sticker..

I think there are many bugs to iron out and they will be addressed over time.

I think there is a bug that needs to be filed with Leica.

Change (Menu 2) Auto Review > Shutter Button, and you will be able to shoot several shots per second.

Same here. Most irritating. That and continuous slow is similarly broken and very different experience than the M10. I wish Leica fixes this first.

See temporary fix in #3.

Thanks. Just tried the workaround and it kinda works. Single shot is back to normal, but if your finger lingers on the shutter button for a tad too long the screen will flash with a preview. My Preview is always set to Off so this flashing is annoying.

Continuous slow also works better, but on taking a single shot the shutter flaps twice and only one image is taken. If I release the shutter button as fast as I possibly can the shutter will flap once as it does on the M10.  What’s this second shutter flap all about?

On the M10s my default drive is continuous slow. Rarely do I use continuous shooting but it’s there when I need it. The shutter release timing is perfect for me for single shots without triggering continuous shooting. I want my M11 to behave like that too.

The flapping on the last shot is strange. I think the camera closes the shutter again to be ready as soon as possible for the next shot,  but then, when you release the shutter, the shutter opens again without taking another shot. I could imagine a better implementation 😄.

This bug has been discussed before in the post below. Have a look - it also includes a video

Thank you, I think that was about Low shooting mode, mine is about single shot mode but I guess they are related in terms of the reason that causes them.

Thank you for the fix, it definitely helps. Lets hope Leica sorts out these issues.

I dont understand how such issues were not caught during testing, it must be part of the standard testing to measure the frames per second for different shooting modes... (I am referring also to the related Low shooting mode issue)

The original SL bodies that I had also did this. It was never fixed in firmware and one of the main reasons I sold them. So irritating when a camera doesn’t take a photo when you press the shutter button. What is the point of a hypothetical shutter lag of 60ms when every second photo has a shutter lag of 1000ms?

This is what put me off the M11, when I found out it had the same shutter system as the SL. With the M10, when I press the button it takes a photo every time.

Apologies Daedalus! Misread your post.

I have the same problem;

  • With LV OFF, and auto review set to OFF, if I press the shutter button continuously it takes a shot every other press
  • Seems better with LV on, but feels laggy

Confirmed bug:

Auto review OFF: 1 fps maximum in single shot mode

Auto review 1 s, 3 s, or 5 s: proper 3 fps maximum in single shot mode

Auto review WHILE SHUTTER IS PRESSED: 1 fps maximum in single shot mode

Auto review PERMANENT:: proper 3 fps maximum in single shot mode

Hopefully a firmware update will fix this problem.

Auto Review > Shutter Button Pressed allows 3 fps in single shot mode on my M11. That is my current setting as I do not like auto-reviews.

Excellent discovery It has been reported to Leica

Jono

What did you report Jono :)

  1. Slow single shot mode, or;
  2. LV OFF & Auto Review > Shutter Button Pressed, unlocks a faster than normal FPS

It was already reported, but in essence

Slow single shot mode with auto review turned off (I always have it turned off)
