Was it raining and keeping you inside for six and a half hours the day of the test, or just insomnia?

Cheers Jono.......

It's my inquisitive nature Peter - I thought it was worth putting some numbers to the situation.

Best

I don't think I can take 703 interesting pictures in a year, let alone 6 hours!

I'm a little disappointed, Jono. I would have expected that a reviewer as thorough as you would publish all 1154 shots so that we could judge for ourselves. 😁

HI There

I thought I would try and get a proper handle on the differences here, so

1. Fully charge battery

2. Switch off all power saving

3. Switch off screen (no EVF)

2. Take 50 photos

3. wait 30 minutes

4. take 50 photos

5 wait 30 minutes

6 Repeat until battery dies.

M10 lasted for 4 hours 10 minutes and I took 451 very boring photos

M11 lasted for 6. hours 30 minutes and I took 703 equally boring photos.

Noticeable that the M10 got quite a lot hotter than the M11

Is this useful? Probably not 😂

All the best

Jono

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

The m10 fares better than I expected. Do you have any idea if these numbers would be the same with the M10-R?

How hot did the M10 get? I've heard that the camera can get quite hot when in live view and maybe even freeze. Didn't know it was also the case when not using live view.

From my experience moving from the 10 to 10-R, I'd suspect that it'd be down by perhaps 10% or so (assuming this wasn't a 10-R to begin with). One thing I'd add is that if one shoots in LV, the disparity would be far greater. I rarely could exceed 220-240 shots with the 10-R in LV.  So far, after 150 or so, the 11 shows around 70% remaining, so probably around the 450-500 mark.

I wonder what the result would be on the M262?

Can someone else try it though as its a bit boring🙂

It wasn't too bad - I set a 30 minute timer on my watch and took 50 shots each time it went off -

It got hotter than the M11, but as Tailwagger says, it would have been much more damaging if I had switched on Live view with the M10 . . .

As I wrote elsewere:

The M11 needs about 10 to 15 % power per Hour for just being on. Shooting takes little power. That makes a battery lasting 7 to 8 hours steady being on. In practical use this is mostly a whole shooting day.

My feeling exactly Elmar

I've never run a battery flat in a day (except in this test). The good performance of the M10 is a bit misleading as there was no live view, no chimping . . whereas the M11 is in live view all the time, and shooting with an EVF won't make much difference to these figures.

Definitely a tick for the new camera

For me battery life is very important despite people saying its easy to carry spares and manufacturers telling us its all good with crap battery life.

Minolta x-700      4 months

leica m 262           1 week [ plenty of use]

mamiya c330       forever

olympus pen digital   57 minutes!!    sharp lenses  though!!

The best thing about the M11 for me is the battery life improvement over the M10  and i love my M262's battery life, its great.

Thanks jono, in fact this is quite useful and on daily basis, i dare to say, battery on m10 would live just fine

though it’s itching to get battery like m11

I can only imagine what that battery life would look like if the M11 didn’t have to be in LV all the time. Please Leica give us the option to shoot meterless in full rangefinder mode without the need to have LV on (fingers crossed). I’d happily shoot Sunny F16 if that meant double the battery. And thank  you for the comparison, this was really useful to know:)
