What feature(s) have Leica kept back for the M11-P?

We still have that..

I think they still need to implement few features in this camera. Bluetooth and Wifi are not totally integrated, GPS functionality, Fotos app.

I have been putting the M11 true my numerous tests, I have been enjoying it with the new Visoflex much more.
I was already very happy with the images of the M10-R and apart from the user experience the images of the M11 are very similar. If you are looking for image quality you don't need an upgrade from M10-R

they have not done a processor upgrade  in the past for a P, probably reserved to M12, what is probably ready in 5 years

a new sensor capable of quicker readout would be great, like the Nikon D9, but I am very happy in what we have here, the times that this becomes a problem are so minimal and on par with many high end cameras. This is coming from someone that works on movies and TV sets often and silent shutter is required.

Be happy with what you have. USE the camera to max !

correction... Nikon Z9

I can't imagine we'll see those sort of upgrades in a Mx P type upgrade, it'll be no red dot, classic script on the top plate and a little addition here and there... Just like all the other previous Mx P models.

Hopefully what you want will come in a FM updates are on the next model.

Focus confirmation, either via sound or a visual spot in the viewfinder.

Indication in the viewfinder (rangefinder) of +/- exposure scale.

The option to turn off  evf stabilization, it gives a false indication of my ability to handhold a 60mp sensor camera.

An additional menu feature to turn off those menu features I never use.

The ability to move menu items up/down and create a hierarchy.

The ability to customize all menu items on a computer screen via the usb-c cable.

The eyepiece attachment size needs standardizing, many attachments selling new need an adapter to work on the M10 and M11.

That's not an M11 wishlist, that's a more of a FW wishlist with a few wishes for a complete new camera.

My guess is that we will not se a M11-P but an M11-S with 24 MP.

I think we can safely guess that when the M11-P arrives in a couple of years, it will very likely have that nice script engraved on the top plate.

But what else might it have, to keep it fresh for a while longer?

I would love to see red frame lines as an option to white ones on the P-model.

... it's already very likely that they will consider a M11-R with 100MP (based on the new Sony sensor generation coming out in 2022-23).

Wifi standards are also progressing, could upgrade that component in M11-P. Agree on silver/black symmetrical options - don't know if that would mean black brass or silver aluminum for M11-P.

M11-S is definitely a possibility, esp. considering all the feedback about 60MP without IBIS. At some point though the question becomes if M11-S would be sufficiently different from M10?

I am personally mostly looking forward to the M11-M 🙂 This could be my first monochrome. Given the crazy ISO performance of the M models, this halfway solves all of the IBIS discussions and concerns.

With all the moaning and complaining about a 60mp sensor, 100mp would send some people over the edge.  But three levels of resolution - 100mp, 50mp and 25mp - would be nice.

As for IBIS, I have read that there is just not enough room in the camera body for the hardware required.  Not if we want to keep the M camera to its present size.  Doing otherwise would be a huge mistake in my view.

Video?  No, thanks.  Our phones can make video.  The M camera's reason for being is rangefinder based still photography.  Remain totally focused on that purpose with no distractions.  The M camera ethos is the photographic road less traveled; let's stay the course.

The M11 Monochrom?  That camera will be an absolute monster - we're talking Godzilla here. 😃

I agree that we most likely will not see an M11R. The next jump in megapixels will come with the next version of the Maestro processor which for the M will be installed in the M12.

They didn't ask me, but I would replace the R with the EVF version so that both optical and EVF models could share the same generation bodies:

  • M11 (optical rangefinder)
  • M11-P & Safari (optical rangefinder)
  • M11-D (optical rangefinder)
  • M11-E (EVF)
  • M11 Black Paint (optical rangefinder)
  • M12 (add IBIS and start cycle over)

M11 Monochrom?

I wouldn’t anticipate an EVF version until the M12.

But Leica can surprise.

I was already reminded about the Monochrom from the same post I made on another forum. In my defense, it's a lot to remember 😂

An M11-EVF could replace the M10-R's position in the lineup, although the M10-R may have been a unique release. But I think you're right about not having an EVF until the M12.

My hope is that if the EVF version can be integrated into the lineup without losing the optical finder version. But I fear the M12 will be EVF-only and we will never have another optical rangefinder.

As I wrote…

Plus I recall that Stefan Daniel once said that the M will stay true to an RF.  We shall see.

If they think you'll buy both they will make both. AN EVF and RF body. M's have had a revival and there's no other OVF camera like it on the market. The more that other manufacturers move to EVF's the more there will be a place for a camera like the M.

At the same time people are adapting EVF cameras to M lenses. Leica would like a piece of that market, I'm sure.

I also would anticipate two different lines of M (at least), if an EVF model can be produced.  But as far as the customer base, I think one interesting factor will be the price of entry, and whether the M ‘revival’ as you call it, will continue now that new digital Ms have rapidly jumped in recent years from about $6.5k at intro to $9k, and with more similarly expensive fast APO M lenses.  Leica knows its existing customers well, but I wonder whether similar market pricing for all M lines would broaden the customer base. Or whether Leica thinks existing customers will just double up and continue to buy the next latest iteration(s) at the same pace.
