In looking at images of the #24025 hand grip for the M11, I see that it has a rubber "base plate" for lack of a better term, which gives us access to the battery compartment & SD card slot without being required to remove the grip.

I am wondering if there will be replacement rubber base plates available in the event of a damaged/cracked/lost base plate?

That is a must have option, it would seem.

...and even if so will it be priced at a point where you might as well just buy another grip?   I have one on order as well, but if an RRS shows up first, I'll go with them instead. The L-bracket exoskeleton provides added protection in the case of spills.  Ask me how I know.

Really really hope they come out with a silver version.  The Integrated arca Swiss dovetail is such a huge plus.

I doubt it. I don’t remember seeing one in silver. I didn’t want to wait and the store had them in stock. (I did get that ugly black hot shoe cover replaced with a silver one.)

It has occurred to me that perhaps an Arte di Mano half case with the built in grip bump is a viable alternative - or possibly even a better alternative - to the hand grip #24025.  It would give the user something to hold on to and would provide a degree of protection for the user's $9000 USD camera.

$9000 USD - Holy Freaking Moses... 😳

I am interested in the grip also because of the built-in Arca plate.

BTW, $9000 is the same price as the outgoing M10-R or the M10M. BP is even more. Yes, Leica-s are expensive :(.

Very true.  Leicas cost what they cost.

Acquiring the M11 is not easy - but we are not looking for easy.

The great thing about Leicas is that all older models are still great cameras and a can be get used for much Less.

Have you confirmation that RRS has a baseplate coming soon?  I emailed them today but have not heard back.

No, but given the camera seems to be selling quite well and the current plate would work save for the repositioned mounting screw... unless they feel that no one is willing to remove it to get to the battery or card and need a redesign... I'd be surprised if they didn't produce one.  Im tempted to just take a drill to my 10-R version. But it could take far more time than I'm personally willing to wait at this point. I've used their grips for so many years on my Ms that I feel a little nervous holding it, even with a wrist strap. Need something soon, though perhaps a half case is a better interim solution than the Leica grip.

We are indeed approaching the level of if you have to ask how much it costs...

We are way past the point of the vast majority of people being able to comprehend the level of commitment and passion required to make such a purchase - not that what other people think is even a remote consideration for we Leica connoisseurs.

It's all relative, though - when compared to the price of one of the 141 original black paint MP cameras, the M11 is a bargain:  https://kosmofoto.com/2021/11/rare-black-leica-mp-sells-for-e1-2m-at-auction/

Been using the grip since day 1 from M11 receipt-14 Jan and love it with rubber base flap for battery/SD card change, protection for bottom of M11, solid feel and attachment to M11, Arca-Swiss base and swivel tripod socket attachment. What's not to like.

True, but compared to what I used screw around with on my own time, Leicas are a bargain... so long as we're not talking about a 50's MP BP apparently, which thankfully, I have zero interest in.

Some guys have motorcycles, some guys have boats, some guys have airplanes - I have my Leicas.  There are more costly pursuits than M cameras, as I tell my wife (she's not buying it for a second, though).

As for the original black paint MP cameras - they are like the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport:  I admire them, I'm glad they exist, but I don't really have any interest in or hope of owning one.  Either I am not very ambitious or I don't have much of an imagination, not sure which it is...

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought the black M11 and a handgrip - so no problem with the black handgrip :-)) For me as a "nature photographer" it is very useful with the integrated dovetail. Also the handling of for example a 75 Noctilux in front of it for landscape is much better. By the way:  first time i used the 75 Noctilux outside the metal lens cap felt down...i did not loose it but ordered a "LensCoat Hoodie" .... better than to order a new lens cap from Leica when lost :-)) No red dot, but practical...
