smitty's Posted January 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, I have several Leica M lenses being used on M8.2 and M9 bodies. My only 6 Bit coded lens is Elmarit 28 Asph. If I switch the camera to manual and select the lens being used on the camera does it achieve the same result as a lens with 6 bit coding? These are not real old lenses just ones made previous to digital bodies .Thanks, Smitty

The caveat to that is the newer lenses having 6 bit codes since their beginning are not in the menu.
antigallican Posted January 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2022 And if you remember to switch the camera coding every time you swap a lens you're a lot cleverer than me. 🤭 1
a.noctilux Posted January 25, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2022 M9 has manual lens selection. M8-2 doesn't have this function.
smitty's Posted January 25, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted January 25, 2022 I don't generally switch lenses that often, using a 50 summicron most of the time. I would love to have them converted to 6 bit but that I think would be an expensive proposition..

If I hadn’t had the info and been new to these cameras the information would have been very welcome - and it may still be to people casually browsing
