I probably ought to have entered this thread before I bought this Handgrip, not after, but one of the things that often feels "annoying" to me is when I put down my Nikon DSLR and pick up my Leica M.  I feel like I don't have a good grip on the camera.  The thumb rest helps tremendously, (except when I need to remove it to mount the Visoflex).  Every time I see or read something about the M10 hand grip, I get tempted to buy one.  Amazon has them in stock, and I found one (or more?) for a lower price from KEH, which I just ordered an hour ago.

(I logged in after selecting it, then selected it again, placing two of them in my shopping cart - the software didn't complain, so apparently they have at least one more in stock after I placed my order for just one of them.)

Wondering - is it just me who feels this way, or to lots of you guys also use this Handgrip?  If it doesn't work out, I can return it, but I think it will make the camera more comfortable to use, and I'll be able to hold it just a little bit more steady.

Thanks, my handgrip should be here in a few days.  If it "feels" like the grip on my Nikon Df or D750, that will help, although I've been doing fine with RF cameras since the 1950's.

"Half case"??   Is this from Leica, or an accessory case?  Is this the one you are referring to?  M10 Half Case   .....I still have one or two of my old leather cases for the Leica M3, but as I recall, I stopped using them because they were too "bulky" - but they were great protection while traveling.  I'm not sure how it would be useful on the M10, especially for "street photography".  I checked KEH, but they're out of these.

First post, here goes.

The M10 leather case (half case) adds so much weight to the camera, but seeing it protects it from... various things, it's bearable. I tried the handgrip on the new M11 in Frankfurt a couple of days ago and it felt nice on the silver brass one. If one is careful, I'd pick the handgrip over the leather case. And if you break the camera, just buy a new M11!

Camera protection is a biggie, and if it starts to rain, it's a good start at keeping one's camera from damage.  I know the Leica is weather resistant, but I don't like pushing this.  Also, when I travel, I am much more relaxed when my cameras are in a protective case.  Good protection in case the suitcase gets dropped or banged against something, and from other things moving around in the suitcase.

About the last thing you wrote - while I don't see any need to upgrade my M10 to an M11, were I to be buying a new camera in the near future, there's a good chance it would be the M11, unless/until people start writing about problems, which I don't expect.

I wasn't aware the M11 even had a handgrip available?  One more thing to check out for the future.

I have the hand grip for my M10R and love it. Never take it off. Would get a thumb grip too if I could ever find one (been on backorder for months). I actually ordered a used finger loop for the hand grip a few days ago just to try.

Less enthused about the case idea. Part of the reason I love the M is its size and the cases look to add a bunch of bulk.

I have the handgrip and the half case from artisan and artist

I like the handgrip in landscape orientation more than I do portrait.

I also have the fingerloop (again I prefer to use this in landscape)

I also have the thumbie grip which sticks to the back of the camera and keeps my hotshoe free for my once in a blue moon EVF use

I'm most grateful for the fingerloop when the camera is being extracted from a tight bag and I don't get my paw prints on the VF window!!

I find that the handgrip is good for a secure hold on the camera and can help with a steady slower shutter speed shot

The handgrip is very nicely machined and sturdy (unlike the M240 version)

Mainly I use the half case, it offers pretty good grip and offers some protection to the camera, which spends a lot of time slung over my shoulder and bouncing around by my hip

I miss the M9 handgrip design (well I don't cos I have one of those too, on my M9) which attaches the same as the baseplate - the M10/240 one is a big screw that you have too turn a few times and occasionally there's a knack to getting it on

When I find myself posting about ergonomic stuff on cameras, I feel compelled to point out that the little finger and surrounding area of my right hand (I'm right handed) doesn't enjoy full mobility (motorbike crash many, many years ago) so what works for me and what I think, has a very real chance of not being the same for anyone else

I am a fan of RRS arca swiss adaptors for cameras and they make custom ones for most Leicas which include a hand grip. the one I have on my Q is the best. For my M10, I just bought the Leica hand grip with finger holder which works well and feels comfortable to hold the camera with.

Yes, I also like to use this RRS L-rail especially since it is not only handle but also at the same time bottom cap and Arca-Swiss rail for use on the tripod.

I'm just so out of touch - looking at the thumbnail, I have no idea what it does, or how to use it, or why I might want to.  Maybe some day I'll find out more about these products and RRS.

You can buy tripod heads that work like a vice, and the jaws grip on to the arca-swiss groves (rails) on the compatible handgrip, it’s quicker and easier than a tripod screw. Well worth it if you habitually use a tri/monopod

Is this better than the Leica handgrip I already have on order?

Oh my gosh!!!!  My new Leica Handgrip arrived today, and it took all of two seconds to realize it is now going to be a permanent part of my M10.  My grip on the camera changed from "OK" to "Secure"!  It's just as comfortable, and maybe even more so, than the similar design on my Nikon Df and D750.  I also like the way it's designed such that my "trigger finger" sits perfectly on the shutter release, and my second finger lines up perfectly on the clear "bumper" I added to the focus aid button on the front of the camera.  It also blends into the M10 as if both were designed to work together.

Anybody know what the threaded hole on the side is for?

Oops, since taking the photo, I've moved the leather protector so that it is outside of the grip, not behind it.

Mike asked:    Anybody know what the threaded hole on the side is for?

Yes!   the threaded hole on the side of the Leica handgrip is to fit a “Leica finger loop”.

they come in three sizes and make carrying the m10 even safer .  You will find the loop on Leica dealer websites.

The benefits of the grip were instantly obvious - made my M10 as secure as my dSLR cameras.

So, how useful is this "finger loop" thingie?  If I'm already wearing a neck strap, I don't see how it would be of any help to me.  I'm all ears though.

The "finger loop" is useless for those who wear the camera with a neck/shoulder strap; it secures the holding with wrist strap.

Seems  you've got a thumb-up? So you take it off to put the EVF on?  Have a look at the "thumbie".  it's a "try it- adopt it".  Sold on the Bay (the E one 😄)  for less than USD50.
