Although I have not received mine yet, I know that the M11 comes with an Apple-approved USB-C to Lightning data transfer cable. Is this true for M11s sold in Europe? I ask because the European Commission announced in September 2021 that it will "force smartphone and other electronics manufacturers to fit a common USB-C charging port on their devices" by 2023. (Verge, 23.09.21) I also am curious, because I have a Google phone and an iPad Mini, both of which have USB-C ports. If there is a Leica USB-C to USB-C cable, I would like to try to acquire one. Thank you.

Not all usb-c cables are equal and to make matters worse few are labeled. Some are designed for power only, some data/power. Buy from a company that sells certified cables and look for TB3/TB4. I believe the M11 only supports 10MBs though so the standard USB-C/3.1/3.2 cable works fine too

-C refers to the connector

3.1= 10Gbps

3.2= 20Gbps

TB3= 40Gbps

and this is the simplified answer :) There are actually several other standards in the USB-C connector., Bottom line buy a good quality cable that is certified and you won't go wrong.

some quick tests...and the Fotos warning screen that pops up when transferring via wifi:

Leica supplied cable (USB-C-Lightning) to iPhone

Transfer DNG = 39 seconds

Wifi

Transfer DNG = 18 seconds

The transfer speed also depends on the ports used. Not all ports support the fastest transfer speed.

UPDATE:

I finally got my USB-C to USB-C cable working on my MacBook Pro and was able to transfer files significantly faster. The bottleneck on the USB-C to Lightning cable seems to be a iPhone limitation. It looks like the lightning port is limited to USB-2 speeds (480 Mbps).

Using a Thunderbolt 3 cable I transferred 120 images (7.28GB) in under 1.5 minutes
