We men love to talk gear!  Nothing wrong with that but sometimes I'm amused by what I read.  We all have ideas about the Q3, and I guess we enjoy speculating about it as we eagerly await its unveiling.  I sold my last M camera after purchasing the Q2M.  I used six different M cameras from film to digital over the years.   I've sold most of my M lenses, and holding onto my 50mm ASPH LUX to sell towards investing on the Q3 - if it has the features I am looking for.  I won't bother to mention what these features are since there has been enough discussion.  Yes, I'm excited about the Leica Q3, and looking forward to seeing what Leica brings to the table. This is a Q2M shot, I love this camera!

Cheers!

I’m still hoping they will give us a 35mm focal length and design it to maximize resolution from the new sensor…

I would prefer 35mm as well, as long as the aperture doesn't get reduced to f/2.

28mm will still works for me, though. The Q2 35mm crops are very good, and they will just get better if they use the 60mp BSI sensor from the M11. The 35mm crop is only a small reduction to APS-H sensor size.

If it has the sharpness of the apo SL or m summicrons I’m fine with f2…

f/1.7 and the look that gives at the non-macro MFD is a huge selling point for me with the Q/Q2. But if they could make the Q3 have a fixed lens version of the new M 35 f/2 APO (without ANY software distortion correction needed), then that could work – especially if they discarded the macro-twist ring and made macro seamless like it is on the X100V.

I don’t mind what software distortion correction is included, as long as the images look ok. 🙂 But I would like them to stick to f/1.7 or even f/1.4.

f/1.4 would be the best thing for me, I would get the Q3 without hesitating (I have the Q and the Q2)

would eventually love 24mm either…  and no video feature, never used it and never will

Leica Q3 is coming: “Asked when the Q3 would be launched, Stefan obviously couldn’t make a prediction. However, when a delegate raised the prospect of a Q with a longer lens — 50 mm has been discussed on forums — Stefan smiled enigmatically and said that this was a question that had often been asked. But he could not say categorically no. I found this rather surprising.”

Preferences will depend on whether you are a M2 person (wide angle) or M3 (short telephoto). The M3 was my first Leica, but i sold it for a M2. For years my favourite carry-around was the M240 with 28mm and 75mm lenses. So I am content with the Q2 range and would not want to lose 28mm. A range starting at 50mm would be too long for me.

24-70mm is my usual range, so 28-75 is ok. Would love f/1.4 though…

For birdwatch I use a Nikon D800 with 300mm prime Nikkor telephoto lens.

So we need a Q3 with either a 24, 28, 35, 40 or 50mm lens, each of which will appeal to a different segment of camera enthusiasts. I do wonder why manufacturers don't use forums like this to poll options such as focal length and flip out screen mechanisms. Sample size might be small but if there is a clear majority it could still be conclusive.

A camera manufacturer would gain huge credibility from polling it's customer base.

I'd guess most of Leicas customer base doesn't hang around in forums tough... I'd like a flip out screen as well but I can see why they wouldn't do it. As for the lens imho 28 is already plenty versatile, especially with a high mp sensor. I have another camera system for focal lengths >50mm as probably do many other photographers interested in a Q. That is probably why the camera is so succesful. It just fits into a line up you already have - regardless of brand. I replaced my Canon 35 1.4 with the new RF 50 1.2 in anticipation of a potential Q3 to cover my fast wide angle needs. Personally I don't see the appeal in a Q with a longer FL as I can either crop the 28mm or get the shot with my R5.

This of course is only my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. My point being: Leica probably knows what their doing, they have the data and know how their customers use their cameras and I can't see them polling a forum to influence future cameras or features on cameras (see:  boatymcboatface)
