I would say the Voigtlander meets the threshold of "compact" especially when you figure in the extra stop you're gaining. I'm not sure the Elmarit is functionally all that much more portable (i.e. that it fits anywhere I wouldn't already put the Voigtlander), though it is certainly smaller. I haven't shot w/ it, mind you, but just wanted to give another Ultron perspective.

I find my current Elmarit-M 28mm to be a little too small. It is fiddly to mount as there is not much room to grip the lens without pushing against the focus or aperture ring. It would have been better if they made it 2mm longer, to the size of the Summicron-M 35mm, which I find to be the perfect size.

Matter of hands size i guess. The lens should be grabbed by the bottom anyway.

I know I'm late to the party, but I just want to share that I've gotten this lens (version 1) in silver white and I'm loving its special hood. Weight is not issue as this lens is anodized so it weighs approximately 190g with hood.

I'm loving its portability, size, lightweight and the bitingly sharp images it produces!

Hello

I am looking into buying a non asph 28mm lens from Leica: the link

The serial number in front of the lens is 3608860 which seems to be dated from 1992 if I read here

You are refering sometimes to ref number in 5 digits (i.e Elmarit 11677).

I see in the ref's title Leica 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M [11809]. Is this the version, what does it stand for?

Where is this visible? I don't see it in the pictures on MPB.

As it is a non asph lens, was wondering what you think of this version & price?

Thanks!!

Your link says the lens has a 11809 code number. It is what we call here an Elmarit 28/2.8 v4 which was the last non aspherical Elmarit-M 28 at Leica. See Leica Wiki. I have no experience with that lens because i did not like much its size which is almost the same as that of the Summicron 28/2 so i went for the smaller Elmarit 28/2.8 asph v1 (11606) instead. The v4 has a very good reputation though. In France, Sepulchre gives it 4 stars.

12504 is definitely the way to go with on the ASPH V1.
that hood is the main reason I prefer that lens and would not upgrade to the V2

Yes the hood is another reason to go for this lens!
