I am from the rare to find species of people that can not accept in camera auto image orientation. I need my images to be always oriented like good old slide film. Well, it happened and my question is: Is there an easy way to change oriented raw images from the M8 back to un-oriented images? From the images it is not obvious if it was taken upside down right side up and so on. Typically you can get some info in the exif, but can you edit it...

There is an orientation sensor in the M8 which records the info in the exif info of the file. This data is usually read by the raw converter program to place the images in the as taken orientation.

Canon and it's software DPP or EVU was about the only package I know that allowed you to ignore the orientation. I don't recall seeing this function in any of the mainstream offerings.

I am not sure to have understood well the problem but, orientation sensor or not, it happened to me, 2 or 3 times, to shoot vertical and seeing in the LCD something strange (if I do remember well, not the usual full frame but a partial horizontal frame so that the vertical shot was completely displayed in the LCD horizontally seen); I did not take much care of... the files were ok... but, thinking of, was clearly a strange behavior that I cannot explain... very rare, as I say, and do not remember if there was something specifically set in the camera (but I think no).

Orientation sensor has always worked for me, until last night.......

Then again, I was taking pictures of two children whilst bouncing high on a trampoline! Leicas are quite liberating.

Easy to fix orientation in LR with Cmd/Ctrl [ or ]
