redrocksjoe Posted December 22, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted December 22, 2021 If you have read Desert Solitaire by Ed Abbey this is Mt Tukuhnikivatz that he writes about: “Late in August the lure of the mountains becomes irresistible. Seared by the everlasting sunfire, I want to see running water again, embrace a pine tree, cut my initials in the bark of an aspen, get bit by a mosquito, see a mountain bluebird, find a big blue columbine, get lost in the firs, hike above timberline, sunbathe on snow and eat some ice, climb the rocks and stand in the wind at the top of the world on the peak of Tukuhnikivatz.” Welcome, dear visitor! tom.w.bn Posted December 22, 2021 Share #5 Posted December 22, 2021 Looks beautiful but intimidating. I crasehd two times hard in the last two months with my mountainbike in the mud. My interest in cycling in slippery condition is minimal at the moment.

One positive thing about fat biking is that the snow is soft if you do fall Plus with the 5" tire at 3PSI they are very stable. -Joe

Next time I fell on my tailbone, one week pausing. Nothing serious though. Needed a new brake lever and adjustment of the derailleur, nothing serious on the equipment side too. Are these 5" tires tubeless?
redrocksjoe Posted December 23, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted December 23, 2021 They are 4.8" set up tubeless with Surly rim strips on DT Swiss rims using Stans sealant. In the snow I run 2.5-3 PSI on the sandy trails around here I am usually at 4.5-5 PSI. I did get myself a gift of a pair of carbon rims, which are on the way. Fat bikes are fun
