tom24 Posted November 16, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello In addition to the Leica M10R and MD, I use a third Canon R6 camera (for AF and dog shooting in moving). I wonder if anyone has experience with the Canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) program? The initial results are great but it is very very slow and inflexible. However, not many corrections can be made. Compared to Lightroom. Experiences, opinions, tips ....? Maybe for the similarity of colors with Leica..? I apologize if the question is not entirely from Leica but I would like to get a similar look as from the Leica camera - Leica is my first choice for everyone. I edit Leica files in Lightroom. Thanks

Thanks Sorry if this may not be the answer you might expect, but like you I am shooting with the Canon R6 in addition to my Leicas. I don‘t use Canon DPP but keep processing the RAW files in Photoshop 21. The Canon colors are different, often very pleasing, but in fact I feel that the Leica colors are more realistic, less warm. Be sure to use the Adobe standard color profile, not Adobe color, or colors will come out oversaturated and the image will look less transparent, blacks too black and undifferentiated. I have been told that other software may lead to better results. Edited November 16, 2021 by EUSe
Boojay Posted November 16, 2021 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2021 As another Leica and R6 user I was happy when Adobe finally added R5/R6 camera matching profiles recently as I rarely venture out of Lightroom Classic. For me Camera Faithful is my starting point and I can usually quickly adjust to suit from there, though often I'm done at that point. It's been years since I've used DPP so can't comment really. I don't know whether DPP gives that option, but Adobe software certainly does. The preset Adobe profiles are OK for Leica (but not 100%. optimal), for some other brands like Lumix they are next to useless.

But then most were Leicas. In this respect - I understand that you purchased a Panasonic S5 - I found that the images coming from the Adobe Raw converter were indeed subpar. Did you create a colour profile or are you using a different converter? I never bonded with the S5 and gave it back after three days.

Ten minutes work. Good! I hated it, its menus (I was warned having the DLUX7), the display that would not fold out without force, the AF, the shutter noise (OK, you can switch it off, but then you never know when the image is taken, just everything. It always got in my way instead of helping me. I suppose I am simply not a Panasonic customer. But I am digressing. Canon DPP should be good for special Canon functions. jaapv Posted November 16, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2021 I won’t contradict opinions on the usability of a camera. Too personal. But I must say that I find the implementation of the menus not bad at all for such a complicated camera and the possibility to use it mainly outside the menu screen quite practical. De gustibus etc.. however, on my camera there is no force needed to position the screen.
