cpclee Posted November 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The way AF-L works on CL is confusing to me. Suppose I set AF-L to the FN button. 1. If I press once but do not hold down FN, it seems that the camera will re-focus again when I press the shutter release to take a picture. 2. If I press and hold down FN, then the customisation menu for FN pops up. In either case I don't achieve the desired AF lock. What then is the proper way to setup / activate AF-L? In my previous autofocus cameras (e.g. Canon EOS), when a button is assigned to AF Lock the shutter button will no longer trigger focusing. This behaviour makes more sense to me. Thanks. Advertisement Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Hi cpclee, Take a look here AF lock. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 13, 2021 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2021 Why don't you just half-press the shutter button? I find focus-lock with a button rather unpractical. (And so does Leica, it seems )

Agreed, I gave it a try when the feature was introduced and quickly decided the implementation made no sense. After the first shot the lock disengages and function goes back to the shutter button. Pointless! 🤷♂️

IMO, the only CL button that should have AF-L assigned is the Right Wheel Button. In the absence of real BBF, there are situations where either shutter-button focusing, AF-L via right wheel button, or MF make the most sense. Separating focus operation from shutter button can be quite useful. Sometimes you do not want the shutter button to trigger focusing. Your choices are to use AF-L or MF.
