Wasn't there an M firmware update earlier this year, with perspective correction? Indeed, sorry for that- but the update was only for M10P, M10R and up. Not for the original M10 (vanilla version). tbh I am not a big fan of image correction provided by firmware updates in particular when shooting raw files. IMO as good as it gets, actually I think that the corners are slightly better than on my M9. @ 5.6 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! S1R + Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35 ZM Thanks so much! Were you shooting wide or nearly wide open? There's a lot of areas on both photos that seem out of focus (intentionally?). Hard to judge on the 2nd photo, but in the first one there seems to be a bit of smearing on the front edges. Do you see that? Thanks again! BTW, my good friend Tailwagger used that very lens to convince me that even the SL2 doesn't always play nice with M glass. He showed me faint smearing, though far more pronounced with his 21 f/3.4 SEM.

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Great improvement. Though I like the tonality of the original file more. Is a question of the child in the bathwater (a Dutch proverb)? Do you use RAW (RW2)? I find that the raw is a but unsaturated and low contrast, flat so to say. And: I (see) noticed that there is no mechanical shutter in the off-position, protecting the sensor from dust when changing lenses. In the shop the man said 'Sure there is a mech shutter. You only never see it.' Edited October 29, 2021 by Alberti
jaapv Posted October 29, 2021 Author Share #74 Posted October 29, 2021 Yes, an open shutter is normal, The same with all other mirrorless cameras. No, I don't think that the colour. is flat, as there is no OOC colour, that is just the interpretation of your computer. Set your default profile differently. Actually, hitting "auto" in ACR. turns the colour. into a garish mess. A setting I must change in due course and I must shoot a decent camera profile; the only halfway decent one I have now. is Adobe Color and it is certainly not perfect. What you see as a decline in tonality. is caused by the devignetting. I pulled the exposure down as I lightened up the corners. But you are right, I should have given curves a quick twist. Looking too much at the softness and smearing, I guess. Interesting, though, that Topaz appears to recognize smearing as motion blur and corrects it easily - look at the trees on the middle left. On the first image a blurred smeary mess, on the second. decent trees.
Alberti Posted October 29, 2021 Share #75 Posted October 29, 2021 I looked at the Topaz site. There are not such good examples as this landscape! This should then also work well with the smearing in the corners of lenses like the Elmarit 21, even the SA 21 . . also on the M-bodies. (I once returned a SA 21mm because I thought it was defect, but it is quite normal; though my 20mm Russar does not have that but that is due to the special build like the Hologon)
01maciel Posted October 29, 2021 Share #76 Posted October 29, 2021 One more image with the Summar LTM f=5cm 1:2 at f2. The Summar (1938) is a very low contrast lens but performs exceptional well on the S1R. The haze gives the image a dreamy look. Welcome, dear visitor! I suppose if you want to really test M glass on the S1R and shoot wide open, you'd want to find a subject that's in a broad illuminated plain, so that the edges can be judged, too: the proverbial brick wall....

S1R + Summicron-M 1:2/50 Type 4 Hi Maciel, this is a great example of an image for the Summicron. - how did you automatically get the lens-data in the Exif? Do you use the leica adapter that reads the 6-bits? Would that work too in the S5? The exif says: Lens Make {0xA433} = Leica Camera AG Lens Model {0xA434} = Summicron-M 1:2/50 Type
