I have a silver 65 Elmar I'd liketo use on my M8, where I will need an UV/IR blocking filter. I read somewhere that it was 43mm so I bought a 43 to 49 step up ring, I have a 49mm UV/IR filter, well no such luck, to big. I measured 40+ mm, very inaccurate plastic ruler, so I am thinking 40.5mm. Can anyone confirm this? The 43 to 49mm fits my 40 Voigtlander so a somewhat happy ending.

Thanks

I confirm lct's answer. My own 65 is serial # 2 288 255 and having just checked it does, unfortunately, take 41mm filters. FWIW I've tried it with a 40.5mm filter - which are far more plentiful - and it does not work; too small.

Good luck in finding a 41mm to 49mm step-up ring. If you find a source can you please let us know? I have a 50mm f1.5 Summarit which shares the 41mm size and trying to find appropriate filters is not easy IMX.

IR-cut filters are necessary on the M8.

Agreed, I still have one. But less so for normal and long focal-lengths. Until the OP can fit one, he can continue to use the 65mm lens and see how he likes the results.

Greens are dull on an M8 with out the filter,  see below, though I do like the image. I did find some 41 to 49 step up rings on fleabay, but I may look for a filter. Thanks everyone.

I have bought a 41mm silver (!) UV filter for my old Summarit 50/f1.5 off eBay brand new for $18.90... There are lots of various 41mm filters still available there. Good luck!

Wow! Good Catch!

Last time I saw a Summarit UV screw-in filter advertised here in the UK (admittedly from a dealer) it was £60 / $83 and it sold just a couple of hours after it was listed. Perhaps eBay is the better way to go? I did manage to snaffle a GG for £20 but most of the Summarit filters I see offered here are the bayonet-fit ones which I don't like as much as the 41mm type.

Here is a macro I did this morning, I did a visual decrease in the red channel to increase the cyan in the green.

So M8 65 Elmar, this was about 1/3 life size onthe sensor, here 3 to 4x life size.

For my black version of the 1:3.5/65 Elmar I needed a Serie 6 UV/IR-Filter to use it with the M. But there were no Serie-Filters on the market in 2008. I asked B+W if they could make one on demand, and they did. Since B+W still offers UV/IR-Filters - but not in 41mm - you could also try to get one from them on demand: https://www.bw-filtershop.de/index.php/kontakt
