Practice, practice, then practice 😉 💪 Everybody knows that for a musician, a couple of hours per day of practice is hardly enough. Practice...😱 Practice...😳 And all the sudden...she agrees to be a temp for the moment...🤣 Shooting a stray cat is always challenging, especially they're highly cautious than a house cat. It took me two weeks to win her trust(I did not feed her anything), and let me take an MFD shot indeed. I am here to share my experience with the OP and encouraging you spend more time with your fabulous gears and targeted subject. Herr Barnack Posted October 24, 2021 Share #23 Posted October 24, 2021 I have the Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH (#11145) and have always tried to keep it simple by guesstimating my framing. It doesn't take a ton of practice or shooting this way to get fairly good at getting your framing right. If I had to choose between EVF and OVF, I would go with the Leica's OVF Brightline Finder M-21 for 21mm (#12-024), even though it is murderously priced at $1010.00 USD. nicci78 Posted October 25, 2021 Share #24 Posted October 25, 2021 Get Visoflex typ 020 then tilt it up permanently. 21mm being almost 90° field of view it loves being shot at a lower angle. Tilted up Visoflex will help you doing that.

The following photo was using same technics as well, strait out from DNG to JPEG, no further adjustment, FYR. augustwest100 Posted November 22, 2021 Author Share #26 Posted November 22, 2021 I’ve been trying to use the 21 SEM with the M10M and no visoflex. I just compose with both of my eyes, then use the optical viewfinder to frame the center of the image. This obviously would not work for perfect framing, but it’s actually really fun to do. I’m fairly used to 35mm frame, and the person who previously suggested that what you see with two eyes open seemed to have it right as far as a good way to describe guesstimating the 21mm frame. At least it made sense to me!
AndreasG Posted November 22, 2021 Share #27 Posted November 22, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) The a.m. "guesstimating" is what I do for decades. I got the 21mm Elmarit around 1990 and used it with various Film Leicas without additional VF, now with the M10-D (no screen). Though I also keep a Visoflex 020, I never use it for this lens. With the time you get a good feeling for the field of view.
nicci78 Posted November 30, 2021 Share #28 Posted November 30, 2021 I insist : use Visoflex top down. 21mm field of view do not fit well with eye level photography. It craves for mid body level. Hence looking down into Visoflex is better. Or shoot at hip level with no viewfinder at all at hyperfocal.
