Hi, I like using my Elmarit-M, especially its handling with the sliding hood. My 2 M mount 90s :

I really love my 90mm Elmarit-M for its excellent optical qualities, appearance, useful built-in lens hood and size, but truth be told, it mostly sits in the cupboard after I got the Apo-Summicron-M. Before I got the latter, I unfortunately also bought the f/2.5 Summarit, but quickly found out that it was a "mistake" and sold it. The only point it was better than the Elmarit-M was center transmission. In all other aspects, the Elmarit-M was superior, or they were about the same (size, weight, filter size). I didn't test flare, though. I had the (thin) Tele-Elmarit in the analog days, and that lens certainly had issues with veiling etc. when shooting against bright light. I haven't seen anything like that with my Elmarit-M.

My impression is that the Elmarit-M is loved for what it is, but it's not a Summicron, Summilux or Noctilux which may place it in the shadow.

Simple: Leica users who do not earn money with their cameras simply want expensive lenses to show off. So they skip the summarit and elmarit line if there is a summicron or summilux available.
