I just had an Apple IMAC and Photoshop CS update and gone are my Silver Efex Pro and Color Efex Pro filters from my Photoshop CS.  I went online and it seems that it's no longer available free.  Can anyone shed light on this?

Thanks!

I am not exactly sure what a Photoshop CS upgrade is.  What release of Photoshop are you using?  22.4.3 is the latest.  There is a folder called Plug-ins in the Adobe Photoshop folder.  Within Plug-ins there should be a Google folder with the Nik software files.  If they are not there, you can move them manually from an older version of the Photoshop folder.

You are correct that Nik software is no longer free because Google sold the software to another company.  That company is now doing updates on the software and is charging for the download.

I don't think Photoshop wipes your old version even if you've gone onto CC Photoshop, so the Nik Suite should, hopefully, still be in the Plugins folder of your old CS, just copy and paste this into the equivalent new folder.

While installing a new version of Photoshop may wipe out your old app (I think it gives you an option), it seems installation always leaves the old plug-in folder untouched.

I think the CS designation was dropped eight years ago, and the CC designation was dropped two years ago.  Currently it is just "Photoshop".  You wonder how marketing people come up with this stuff.  (But no one is worse than Leica with its M camera names.)

I had a similar situation when updating PS CC related to Epson Print Layout. There it lost the link to the program in the Automate menu. In that case I just reinstalled the latest version of the Epson software and everything was fine. If you still have the original Nik dmg file, I would think you should be able to just reinstall it and likely things will be as they were.
