OK so I have a M9 with a original sensor and despite that things had been working fine until recently when the shutter wouldnt fire (the self-timer would cause it to fire oddly).

I shipped it back to Leica in the US, they said the issue was sensor corrosion, they couldnt fix it and offered me 2k off a M10R or 1K off a M10.

I thought about but my finances took a hit and so I decided to sell the M9.

I also checked in with the people who fix the sensors and was told by the folks at https://maxmax.com/maincamerapage/

that the shutter problem wasnt related to the sensor issue and that the Leica probably just didnt see any point in repairs of a camera with the sensor issue they couldnt fix.

He's offering me $500 for the M9 as parts.

My questions:

1. Is it true that the M9 shutter issue I have is unfixable? A quick google search showed nobody else fixing M9s other than the sensor fix?

2. Is maxmax trustworthy?

3. Is $500 for a broken M( a good deal? I was asking $900 when I thought it was just the sensor, knowing that is 1k to fix?

A broken camera is oly worth what someone is willig to pay and. you have been offered 500 for it. Personally with a sensor & shutter issue I'd sell it quick.

Apparently changing sensor covering glass only (not entire sensor block by Leica) needs remapping. Which some of those non-Leica ones doesn't do. Where is one person who came to the rescue with special software.

Why didn't you ask Leica if they will change the shutter only? If it is shutter, they might still have them. If it is processor board, they don't have it.

Possibly the issue is Leica's warranty of the entire camera after repair.  They can replace the shutter, but have no replacements for the sensor.  They can't do a complete repair so they can't warranty the camera.

Call DAG (Don Goldberg) to discuss.
