Summilux M 1.4 35mm pre asph Serie VII filter adaptor / step up / step down ring for using screw in filters?

I would like to use screw in filters or filter holders with my pre asph Summilux 35mm. I've got the original lens hood and adaptor ring 12504 for Serie VII filters.

I wanted to try the Summilux for landscape shoots at sunrise and sunset with graduated ND filters. Serie VII filters are not available as graduated NDs to my knowledge.

From my DSLR system I still have a Lee filter system including a lens holder, various adaptor rings and grad ND filters.

Is there a filter adaptor / step up / step down ring to attach to the original lens hood / adaptor ring? I know I might still have to use another adaptor or step ring.

I tried the 14225 Leitz adaptor ring but I can't get it to fit onto the 12504 adaptor.

A google search gave me solutions for attaching Serie VII filters onto other lenses that can fit screw in filters but that's not what I want. Any ideas?

My semi 'solution' since decades...

Try more common size E49 filter (flip reversed or not) in place of Serie VII in the hood 12504.

That would be a solution if I wanted  to use grad NDs that are screw in.

However, the filters I use with the LEE system are square. They slide into the filter holder allowing to position the horizon freely unlike with round screw in grad NDs.

The filter holder is then attached to an adaptor ring that screws into the lens‘ filter thread.

the problem with the 12504 adaptor is ist has the filter thread on the outside - not the inside.

In order to attach one of the LEE adaptor rings onto the 12504 I need an adaptor that screws onto the outside filter thread where the hood would be attached.

The E49 filters aren't screw in. They sit inside the 12504 hood and can be positioned or rotated as required. Use a tiny piece of Blutack to hold them in the position that you need.

@leicaalex

I see that you want to use square filters and not round ones.

I don't have a solution to this.

This lens is the worse in filter using.

My suggestion...

If possible I'd use another lens with screw thread in front as 35mm Summicron-M for example.

I'd use some adapters ...let's say E39 M to E52 F ...then Cokin ( as example here ) with 52mm adapter then some Cokin square filters if I don't have.

There are some aftermarket hood made for the lens. Buying one and using it sacrificially to get just the rear section might be an option. Then find a square filter adapter ring which will 'jam' onto the threaded rear section, and carefully glue it in place. This will give you what you need. Not a perfect solution but it will probably work. The only other solution would be to get a custom adapter machined which sounds expensive to me.

Another solution is to buy the Bellows M hood section which has a clamp-on arrangement which also fots the Simmilux (I just tried it). It lloks as though this might diassemble and give you a ring which could again be fixed to a Square filter adapter ring.

In the absence of anything built for what you want to do you will need to improvise.

I think you mean this #12 post, but I can't unscrew the hood.

The hood can be difficult (near impossible) to unscrew if deformed anddropping it can deform it unfortunately. Mine's 'iffy' in that it works but is clearly not perfect as its awkward to screw together.
