Advertisement Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here Leica M10-R now also available in black painted version!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pippy Posted June 28, 2021 Share #22 Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) I'm surprised that no one (AFAIK) has mentioned the surface of the Black Paint being glossy right from the outset. I've owned four B-P digi-M bodies and all of them - without exception - have started out as being rather matt and only gloss-up over time. Not taken from exactly the same angle but, FWIW, here's a comparison between the M10-BP and my M-D Typ-262; Welcome, dear visitor! The M-D Typ 262 looks rather narrow and boxy from that angle, almost M11-ish one might say. 🤫 Jeff
RMF Posted June 28, 2021 Share #24 Posted June 28, 2021 The black paint on that particular photo of the M10R-BP shows an almost ‘orange peel’ (that’s what we’d call it in the States) texture.
NigelG Posted June 28, 2021 Share #25 Posted June 28, 2021 The specification of the M-D listed the finish as “black lacquer” - which is not the same as the new “glossy black paint” finish (which definitely seems to have a visible slight orange peel surface)...
Jeff S Posted June 28, 2021 Share #26 Posted June 28, 2021 The M8.2 black paint finish was not as shiny/glossy. And was quite durable in my experience. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/584888-USA/Leica_10_711_M8_2_Rangefinder_Digital_Camera.html Jeff

Thanks, all, for the responses and apologies offered to all because it's a case (yet again, I'm afraid) of Mea Culpa. Having thrice mentioned 'Black Paint' in the earliest part of the press release they do say, at the very start of the second pragraph; "...high-gloss finish..." which I had missed completely previously (but Nigel did notice so +1!). Just shows that Reading Stuff is sometimes Useful!............ Which (going off-topic as is my wont) brings me to Steven's and Jeff's posts #'s 28 & 29... Steven's first; does the / did the MP B-P look like 'shiny-' or 'satin-finish' when it was new? Jeff's next; my M8.2 was FAR more 'brassed' after 20,000 frames than was my M9-P after 75,000 frames even although they were 'treated' in the same fashion and my M-D (as pictured above) is still practically 'Mint' (baseplate chips and two v/f corner rubs apart) despite being also 20,000 frames in and never pampered / cased / protected so my guess, bearing upon what Jeff said about his M8.2, is that the durability of Black-Paint (Lacque Noir?) over the years might be a variable i terms of coating / treatment? Anyhow; let's hope that everyone who is fortunate enough to acquire an M10-R Black Paint has no access to an orbital sander... Philip.
eric_bowles Posted June 29, 2021 Share #28 Posted June 29, 2021 The M10-R Black Paint finish is identical to my black paint M6 TTL, M7, and MP bodies (i.e., shiny with subtle "orange peel" texture). It's quite different from the black paint M9-P, which is more matte and smooth.

I bet there is some brass visible due to it`s age. Would you mind to show a picture of it ? Do you see any difference in the black paint quality compared to the M10-R BP or the MP? Fedro Posted June 30, 2021 Share #31 Posted June 30, 2021 I decided to turn down one, I would have to upgrade my 10R and add a good 4k euros. It looks gorgeous but it would be too hedonistic a purchase
Stephen.s1 Posted June 30, 2021 Share #32 Posted June 30, 2021 The bottom plate does not look painted. For a specialty item like gloss black paint. I think they have brass balls to have orange peel showing. Now you'll need to have all your lenses painted...
SJH Posted July 1, 2021 Share #33 Posted July 1, 2021 The M10R BP looks wonderful and I was tempted but to trade my M10R after I only bought it last year, plus the M11 coming in November, didn't really make sense to me so I've declined the offer of one However, my M 35mm APO has just arrived so something fun to play with tomorrow!! MikeMyers Posted July 2, 2021 Share #35 Posted July 2, 2021 I "just" have my M8.2 and M10. The one thing I read that appeals to me on the new cameras is the quieter shutter release. For me, that is functional.

New limited edition Leica body that’s BP and may well be the final digital camera to take this form compared to the M11 From this thread clearly some have succumbed 😂 This lasted though for about a day before I actually bought something in the form of the M 35mm APO which seems rather more rationale!!
