ldhrads Posted June 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got this lens last week. I prefer a hood to a UV filter. Hood keeps falling off! Anyone else experiencing this?
Advertisement Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 Hi ldhrads, Take a look here Noctilux 1.2 hood issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted June 19, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2021 (edited) When you push the two side buttons on the hood, do you see the four pins moving ? They must retract when push, then recalled by spring to hold on the lens's groove. Edited June 19, 2021 by a.noctilux

Anyone else experiencing this? No. But I quickly put the original hood back in the box. It's been replaced by a 49->58 step-up ring, which allows me to use any kind of ND filter without added vignetting, with or without hood. When used with a hood, this is a vented straight (not "tilted", which caused vignetting in my trial-and-error experiments) 58mm third-party screw-in. Protection seems more than adequate and it's not larger (and quite possibly smaller, I'd need to measure it) than the rather bulky original hood. a.noctilux Posted June 19, 2021 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2021 Strange for a new hood which came with not efficient enough strong springs. Eventually exercice the two tabs in/out a couple of times. In your place, I'd talk to the Leica Dealer.
lct Posted June 19, 2021 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2021 Did you mount a filter before the hood? If so you may wish to remove the filter and try again.
Bo-Sixten Posted June 20, 2021 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The problem with the original hood is, that in order to accommodate filters (my guess) it only has a single set of pins, not the usual pairs. (A problem with the 50mm Summilux ASPH BC, where you can't put a filter in with the hood on.) Therefore the Noctilux 1.2 ASPH hood sits loosely on the lens, and easily wiggles off. Unlike the e.g. ITDOO (39mm) which also has a single setup of pins but sits very tight on the lenses. I skipped this hood and use a simple screw in E49mm hood which I screw into the filter. There are plenty available from old lenses from e.g Pentax or Olympus. It works perfectly and is not so bulky. (M10M and 50mm Summicron DR) Welcome, dear visitor! fabior Posted June 20, 2021 Share #8 Posted June 20, 2021 I confirm that I also have problems with the stability of the lens hood. I have already fallen to the ground many times causing small cracks and dents on the edge. For now I solved it by protecting it with black tape! This is quite annoying for a 7000 euro lens ! Anyway I love this lens
Guest BlackBarn Posted June 20, 2021 Share #9 Posted June 20, 2021 Yes same problem with mine. One of the hook pins seems slightly small that the others which might account for the problem I’m having. However I don’t know if this mirrors a problem with the original lens hood or just a poor overall design/fault with the reissue.
