I sold my M6 last year and bought an MP. One of the reasons was the regular white-out/flare of the rangefinder patch in the M6. The MP finder does not flare and I like it a lot.
Other people seem to never have the flare problem with the M6, but with mine it occured rather frequently.
But... if the upgrade is worth it to you is a question only you can answer I'm afraid. Having said that, if this M6 is your 'for life' camera I'd say go for it!

After decades of use with my 1985 M6, my aging eyes wanted an improved finder. I had DAG apply the “flare fix” - which I believe uses MP parts, and also replace the windows with new multi coated ones. Now it is the equal of any M finder.

It's worth the price if you also get the multicoated finder window. I had it done to my M6 TTL Millennium and it made a big difference. You can have some of the unused frame lines blocked out at the same time.

I had my M6 finder upgraded when I first acquired it secondhand in 2004, worth doing if the flare-out on the rangefinder patch bothers you.  I suspect it will add to its value too. Mine is currently being serviced and, as a 50mm only users, I have asked for the 75mm frame lines to be removed.

Thank you all for the replies.  The quote does include the extra lens and the MP windows, and I think I'll block the 75 and 135 frame lines at the same time.  I'm leaning toward doing it, at least with one of my M6's, and if it makes a nice difference, doing the others as well.  After all, one of the reasons I bought a second M6, recently, was to have a second body while the first is out for service.

DAG did the flare fix on my M6 as well and I haven't had any issues since he did the work. He also masked  the 75 and 135 frame lines for a cleaner VF, smoothed out a dent in my baseplate, and sold me a black dot!

I highly recommend DAG, although he serviced my camera about 4 years ago so I am not sure about current wait times these days.
