Yes; there is an obvious difference but, of course, it also could be down to your Elmar having some slight haze. It is, after all, 73 years old......

Oldie and cristal clear like truly yours :D

If Ian were to use the Thambar in an equatorial country at high-noon on the sunniest day of the year do you think the results would look similar to a photograph taken with diffused sunlight filtering through a copse of trees in the depths of a wood?

Not quite the geolocation, time or weather you describe but this portrait was taken on a sunny day. Just for reference.

The common comment I get from photographers on Tambar portraits, is "oh, lovely bokeeeh, but not enough contrast, bla, bla, bla"... well that is one of the reasons I like it. When I posted this one on another forum, someone downloaded the jpeg, put it through the "hyper trendy mega contrast super duper filter" and posted it back. I can't write here what my thoughts were, I'd be lynched.

Nice pic :). Low contrast lenses were pretty common in the past. Some of them can still be found new in Russia. Here Jupiter-9 85/2 from 1969 on digital CL.
