Well why then did you not take it up with the suppliers directly rather than spamming at least two web sites.  (Rhetorical question, please don't answer.)

I tried - it's useless. You will simply be accused of incompetence and stupidity.
And why did you decide that this is spam - I shared my experience, with examples, so that other people know what to expect from this product, and not to believe the loud promises of manufacturers.

We just added a tech tutorial for the geeks and all curious about colours in the digital era.

https://www.cobalt-image.com/in-the-heart-of-our-basic-profiles/

There’s a typo

Quote

1-ColorMatrix – Raw data conversion matrix to XYZ without chromatic adaptation.

It can also be the only element present in the profile, effectively reducing it to a simple linear transformation matrix between device-dependent data and XYZ.

2-ColorMatrix – Raw data conversion matrix to XYZ D50.

2 should say Forward Matrix (chromatic adaptation to D50 from XYZ illuminant values)

@Ulysseita

why are Cobalt re-doing the M9 emulations, you already offer M9 jpg/dng/bw - what will the new pack do differently?

Where did they announce it?

They have profiles that work well, the only ones seem to be the canon r5 (out of all I have).
They seem to have redone them after the claims of a dissatisfied customer, and they succeeded. I hope they realized where they made mistakes, and now all profiles will be improved as well.

Thanks for the correction!

about the M9, we are still WIP.

What I can say is, we are always improving our products. ;)

I have an M9 and an m10 and a bunch of files taken same time, same lens from each camera (I also bought the CCD pack)

Let me know if you need a beta tester (no offence if not)

-A full Leica M9 emulation pack based on an advanced method.

I read it, thanks. I will assume that the "advanced method" is according to the method of constructing the mentioned canon r5 profiles.) Well, this is reassuring.

I wouldn't assume anything. If I was you I might be tempted to NOT buy them though, as you didn't enjoy the last CCD pack... but what the hell your money...

Leica m9 is already included in the package I bought.
Updates are free (hopefully). In the form in which the profiles are now, they are useless to me. As I wrote earlier, the only profiles that work normally are r5, but my profile is better. As a result, I don't use anything I bought.

yeah I own that package with the M9, and I also have an M9 so I can compare it.

But like I said some posts above, it's not about an exact match (the m9 doesn't make the same shade of red every time, it depends on many factors) - it's (to me at least) about capturing a 'vibe'

I make my own profiles too. I like mine but that doesn't mean the cobalt ones are bad, they're ok I think... I tend to judge profiles on edit-ability, colour casts stuff like that and the Cobalt ones are ok.

Neither about accuracy, nor about some kind of capture of the vibe there and does not smell.)
These profiles don't do anything they promise, not even close. How many more examples do I need to give here? And I gave paired examples, not made at different times, and with different light!
At the same time, my profile works fine, but from cobalt it does not work at all.
With the same success, you can simply sort through various presets or profiles from other cameras in some DXO ...

It’s a shame that you don’t like the Cobalt profile

It’s regrettable that you’ve got into a heated exchange with Cobalt about it

But in the great scheme of things we can buy that end up disappointing us (cars, holidays, cameras, lenses, houses) you haven’t wasted a great deal of money on the CCD Cobalt style pack…

Here you are on a forum dedicated to a brand that quite possibly you don’t even own, making the same complaint (however valid it is for you) over and over and it’s a complaint that has no resolution for you.

Personally… I’d just let it go.

I am very happy with Cobalt profiles. They work as expected.

I suspect that @SrMi is talking about the base (standard) profiles and @ALLinONE is talking about the s5pro emulation one

colours in photos are like tunes in music, we don’t all like the same ones

Did you ever buy (say) the VSCO ones then get annoyed because (say) Portra doesn’t look exactly the same as real film? No. You understood that the VSCO preset is an approximation. It’s the same here

FWIW I’m most happy with the profile(s) I made myself, not being super happy with profiles and presets I’d bought from other people spurred me on to 1) learn some about how profiles work technically, 2) invest a tangible sum of money in hardware and software that’s required to make profiles and 3) invest a colossal amount of time in learning to work with 1 and 2

Because of this I actually consider that I’ve never wasted a penny on profiles/presets because being motivated to tackle a new skill has considerable value IMHO

The trouble is, it's not even close. I already said that I was ready for an incomplete match (my profile is also not 100% match), but it turned out to be much worse.
I hope that they still redo their work at a new qualitative level.

I prefer my own ccd flavoured profile to cobalt's one, but this doesn't mean that I'm going round the internet complaining about it. Obviously you should do as you please but personally I'd let it go
