I recently got the CL. I saw that you can also mount R optics, are there any that stand out in quality and make sense to use?

Hi kengai, personally i use M lenses on my CL but just because i already have and really love them. R series have a lot of wonderful glass with performace similar to M. In the time i tested some such as the classic summicron 50mm f2 (that you can find much cheeper tha a M summicron 50mm) or summilux  35mm f1.4 (it was really nice), but don’t limit yourself to these.i think if you want to invest in R lens buying the original adapter for cl -R you should give a try also to the many tele lens available on that platform such as 180mm or 250mm that should be very interesting in portrait or nature subjects. Enjoy!

Kengiai, why not just start with the lenses you already have, unless you bought a body only. The standard zoom is an excellent all=rounder, and will show the focal lengths you need to buy, if any.

There is one outstanding lens I can recommend: the APO 100/2.8 macro lens. It has the great 3D look if you use it for portraits etc. It is a fantastic macro lens. And it shows wonderful Bokeh. The performance of this lens is great. The use on CL with EVF is perfect. It is know as one of the best R-lenses. I am simply impressed by the results.

Just about all of them...  the Fisheye Elmarit might be the exception as it turns into a distorted 24 mm angle of view.

Yes.

I bought my CL body-only; I use M and R mount lenses on it exclusively. To make this easiest, I have the Leica M Adapter L and R Adapter M: use just the M Adapter L for M-mount lenses, stack the R Adapter M onto that for R-mount lenses. R-mount lenses work beautifully on the CL: I have 15, 19, 28, 50, 60 Macro, 90, 100 Macro, 135, and 180 mm focal lengths — All of them produce superb results.

I should mention also that I've edited down the displayed M and R lens profile list to just the lenses I own. This makes it faster and easier to correctly select the lens profile, since manually selecting the R lens profile is required for my R lenses. Most of my M lenses have been coded (or were supplied new with the lens codes) so that the lens profile is automatically selected when I fit them; having that lens profile list edited to just my lens choices saves time also when I am working with an uncoded lens.

Of course, you can choose to not bother with the lens codes at all, but I like to have the lens type correct in the EXIF metadata and I find that there are some small but nice corrections applied when they are used, for most of my lenses.

Ref Leica R lenses ... avoid / check reviews of the older Sigma and Minolta designed R zoom lenses. One good guide to buying R lenses is the Leica Pocket Book 8th Edition which documents the designs / origins of all Leica / Leitz R lenses together with their MTF charts ... but the book is in short supply and sells for a premium price.
