jaques Posted May 29, 2021 Share #1 Â Posted May 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a chance to bid on a job lot of Leica gear on Monday- there are a few lenses in the lot- the best of which is a pre-asph summicron 50. I think it is type 3- (it has the focus rounded tab with no indent for your thumb?) Anyhow the lens is in good condition except that when I played around with it I saw that the aperture blades were not opening fully at f2 and looked slightly irregular. I understand at f2 these don't necessarily open all the way- but this was definitely not normal and moving it back and forth it didn't always stop in the same position at f2 so there was definitely an issue. The blades themselves looked good, clean with no visible damage/deformations... Â I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a common issue, the likely cause, and how hard/expensive it might be to have repaired? .
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 Hi jaques, Take a look here 50mm summicron 3rd version (?)- aperture blade problem/repair question?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pedaes Posted May 29, 2021 Share #2 Â Posted May 29, 2021 A routine CLA will probably sort it so I would budget for one in your bidding decision. Good luck (and don't forget the buyers premium and tax).

This side of the Atlantic a CLA at a reputable place is at least £/€150 - twice as much. Edited May 29, 2021 by pedaes
jaques Posted May 31, 2021 Author Share #5 Â Posted May 31, 2021 Ha ha- I WON! Â For considerably less than I had budgeted... Go to collect this evening- will drop the lens off with my local repairman. Hopefully it's a simple adjustment and nothing too serious.
