Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been traveling and not checking in on forums.  All the posted Japan photos, with my CL, were taken with the VARIO-ELMAR-TL 1:3.5-5.6/18-56 ASPH.

I love this lens too

the perfect one for the CL

Hi,

I have just bought a CL with the 23mm f2.  Love it already.

To save me a lot of delving (i’m fairly new member) in the site, could someone just give a brief overview of the use of a tri elmar.

( on the CL…..)

What is the effective FOV ?  And any optical drawbacks for this adapted combo ?  Is version 1 or 2 better or no difference in OQ ?

The size would be brilliant.

Any help and experience of would be appreciated.

David

David, I own but have not used that combination of TE and CL. I will schedule a trial. However, after using the lens on my old M8, also crop-sensor, I can report excellent performance  at 35 and 50mm settings, slightly less perfect at 28mm. But the latter can be improved in pp. You would be using the central portion of a full-frame lens, so no fall-off at the edges on the CL. After my trial I will update my website article on the CL.

There is no difference optically between the two versions of the TE. Changes were mostly mechanical. The 1st version lacks DOF markings.

• What is the effective FOV ?: same as FF multiplied by 1.5.
• any optical drawbacks for this adapted combo ?: same as FF.
• Is version 1 or 2 better or no difference in OQ ?: no difference in IQ AFAIK but i have no experience with v2.

David,  further to my earlier reply, I have tried the lens on my CL with satisfactory results. I was reminded why I had not used it seriously.  If focal lengths in the range of 42mm to 75mm meet your needs,  it is an entirely workable solution. Compared with the standard zoom lens however,  coverage lags behind. You lose out in the useful domain of 28mm to 35mm. But at 75mm, the MATE is about a stop faster. I hope this helps.

Can you remember the focal-length settings for your pictures shown above?

i suspect the last pic (needle) was the "hidden" macro mode at 40mm. Otherwise, you may wish to look at the exif data. If focal lengths are not mentioned there, i don't remember sorry.
