Einst_Stein Posted April 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got a Fujifilm xe1 from a garage sale, paid US$100, tested with Leica Elmar 135mm. The raw has very low contrast, I have to boost the contrast and vibrant and saturation. Welcome, dear visitor! Nothing to do with its sharpness. I just like the colors, call it impressionism imitation if you will. Edited April 28, 2021 by Einst_Stein
Michael Geschlecht Posted April 28, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) Hello Einst, Nice photos. Did you try it at F8 & F11 on a sturdy tripod? At the time that this lens was designed many people thought that 135mm lenses were at their best between about 15 & 20 meters/45 & 60 feet. Quite good at longer distances also. Note the tripod mount on the bottom of the lens. The lens head also unscrews & this becomes a very good lens with a Visoflex & a Bellows or with a Visoflex & Extension Tubes & a Close Focusing Mount. Michael I didn't know the head can be unscrewed, really? thanks for the info. I rarely shoot it at f11. I will try it. what should I expect? For the above pictures, tripods helps very little as it was the wind. I like this lens very much, in fact it is my first Leica lens when I got my M9. I got it dirt cheap from Tarmakin, I think it was US$149. This lens was by nature not very contrasty, nevertheless very sharp. But I think my copy may need some cleaning to recover to the original condition, , though I don't see any obvious haze.
Einst_Stein Posted April 28, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted April 28, 2021 I unscrewed the lens head, did some minor cleaning. H'ere''re some test shots. Straight out of cameras into LR. No adjust. They are: f4/ISDO200; F5.6/ISO400. F8/ISO800, F11/ISO600, F16/ISO3200 Welcome, dear visitor! wda Posted April 28, 2021 Share #12 Posted April 28, 2021 I praised this lens here https://www.davidaskham.com/a-gem-from-the-past It is one of my favourite 'oldies'. Focusing will ease with exercising. Most copies saw very little use. Performance is very good from f/4. On my CL it equates to 200mm. Enjoy!
Einst_Stein Posted April 28, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted April 28, 2021 One of the major problem is its outlook. It is screaming. I can't hide it. I got stopped several times by shopping mall security. They don't like "professional photographer taking picrures in the mall".
wda Posted April 28, 2021 Share #14 Posted April 28, 2021 Security concerns limit most photography in shopping malls, which are private property. It has little to do with size of equipment. Smart phones are ĺess intrusive apart from being more in evidence.
jankap Posted April 28, 2021 Share #15 Posted April 28, 2021 I use an Elmar lenshead for pictures in the R lens image thread (also with a lens booster). A nice lens.

markhout Posted April 28, 2021 Share #17 Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) My Tele-Elmar 1:4/135 is one of my go-to lenses! Razor sharp, heavy and somewhat challenging to focus. But cheap! On a Z7 due to my poor eyesight. F:8. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! In the area I live, regardless their rules, you'll be fine with smart phone or unsuspicious P&S. Even a Hasselblad 500CM with film back is fine now (not in the past). Digital back is still no-no.
