I have thumbup, grip, and finger loop (and rubber hood and holster)

the rubber hood as mentioned before is very nice. Easily put off, taken off. Soft, can be squeezed while in pocket. Nice rubber as cushion on impacts.

the holster provides me quick draw and stow single handed in 2 seconds.

fingerloop allows me to relax my fingers from gripping without losing the camera.

Coming back to the question on thumb up and grip.

First, because of the finger loop, I am stuck with the Leica grip. I don't swap batteries and SD cards often, so I can live with its design short coming. The grip itself provides the finger curled up grab that I need on the Q, since the finger stretched grab isn't possible as on the M due to the shorter body perhaps.

My Thumbup opinion is rather negative due to the way I use the camera. Not only I access to the back button and the wheel, I also occasionally press the shutter with my thumb when I need low angle perspective, eg kids shots. The thumbup would make it uncomfortable to do so. The extra thickness it adds also makes adjusting shutter speed dial with thumb less direct.

To sum up, my minimal equipment list would be grip and fingerloop.

Holster is super nice, so is the rubber hood.

@Marc B-C That link doesn't seem to work, but no worries, I found it directly on JJC's site.

@Leica28 I didn't know I could rent the grip, I'll have to look into that. I've given LensRentals so much $$ renting Leica gear during the pandemic!

@gteague Thanks for pointing that out. I am familiar with the Sony cards and how snug they can be. You make a really good point about the tripod plate too. I would likely use a PD plate when I needed one (infrequently), but you're right, they can be wiggly sometimes. How do you like the size of the Lim's case - do you feel like it makes your Q2 noticeably bigger? The appeal of the Q2 for me is as a relatively compact all in one solution for daily carry and travel. I don't want to negate that by attaching a bulky case.

except for the bottom which is necessarily higher (deeper?) than the leica grip to allow for port access, the case itself literally adds no bulk to the camera except for the very nice 'squarish' grip. i understand the grip can be removed, but i'd never do that--i need all the support i can get as i'm old and shaky. i think overgaard noted (as i did) that the camera won't stand on the leica grip because the lens is too heavy for it. the lim's has no such problem and sets solidly on horizontal surfaces.

btw, in addition to the two lim's cases i have i also got their lens hood for the q2. i dislike the 'pinched in' look of the leica hood and the lim's allows for using a 'pinch' lens cap. i have a filter on the lens, but i'm too set in my ways to try not to use and filter and a cap. :)

hope this helps, /guy

I Love the Lims case and there really isnt any issues removing the memory card although i have to use my left hand to get it out which I am fine with
I also have the Leica Thumb grip for a bit more stability

I've been using the RRS Q2 grip since it came out. It does add bulk and weight and I do find it difficult to get the cards out at times. However, the pros outweigh the cons for me. It is very comfortable to hold and I like being able to attach it to a tripod or monopod in landscape or portrait without having to fiddle with anything else. The big surprise for me is the utility of the QC socket. It allows me to easily attach a sling strap for the times where I don't want to carry the camera in my hand. Or to quickly disconnect the sling strap (without removing the strap from my body) when I'm going for a weird angle.

I just wish that RRS would have taken advantage of the holes drilled in the handgrip to provide a place to store the hex wrench.

Yes, or I sometimes use an Ellie Short by 3 Legged Thing

Re-reading this post later, I realize that it is misleading in one regard. The CL handgrip lacks a tripod bush, a very serious omission, in my view. Sorry! I cannot think what possessed the Leica designer and his/her supervisor. So the grip needs removal before attaching an Arca plate.

Know this thread started back in April, but just to toss my two cents in. On my Q I have the Leica grip and the Thumbs up, but find it's best with one or the other. Having both is a little too much for my medium sized hands to feel right.
