Hey guys. Hope you're having a great easter weekend, under the best conditions possible during current times.

I'm new to Leica, and I've sold everything I had to get a M6 and a M10, both used but in great conditions, from the oficial Leica Store in Porto. So, I'm loving the hell out of them!

Both have 1 year warranty, and the Leica M6 has shot as many photos as the M10 in my hands (around 100 photos).

But, unfortunately, the M10 though just started to show issues recently. It would get stuck while shooting, I'd have to remove the battery, put it in again, and hope it didn't get stuck again. But it's getting more and more like this, and I've stopped insisting to bring it to repair.

Just wanted to ask you: did you ever see this behaviour or heard anything like this? Here's a video showing what happens: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1j5CPiNdfBxM-C4nyPID4NoIAdurTVs_h/view?usp=sharing

Same with the live view. It seems that the shutter has some sort of issue. When getting stuck on live view, when I remove the lens, the sensor is exposed, and the LCD shows a black image. I remove the battery, put it back in and the sensor gets covered again. Shot a couple of more pics (3-4), and it gets stuck again.

Let me know if you ever saw this before. Coming Monday, I'm getting it back to the store for repair under the warranty.

Best regards,

Marcel

Sounds like an SD card the camera doesn’t work well with or that has gone bad.

Make sure you:

— Have the latest firmware on the camera
— Formatted the SD card in-camera
— Tried a different SD card
— Are not using any third-party adapters (lens adapters, flash trigger, etc.)

Thank you for your reply. So the SD card has been exchanged 3 times, no luck. Firmware updated to the latest, no luck. Been using a VoigtLander 40mm since day 1. Tried with other lenses as well. All the same result.

Not sure what else it could be.

But did you try a different brand card or just exchanged for the same brand every time? M10 is picky. Sony Tough for example — avoid for it.

Boa Pascoa!

Have you tried a full reset?

Failing that I think I'd just wait until I could contact the store.

I've bought a few things from there and I've always found the guy that runs it helpful and good with any queries I had.

Same brand. But it wouldn't explain the working before flawlessly and now failing, and also, the live view hanging upon opening, right? Ahhh this is so frustrating.

The Sony Tough card I was using worked ok for a while (a few hundred shots) then started locking up the camera, after which it would continually hang. Definitely try another brand SD card before you exchange it or send it off to be repaired.

Try testing it with a new battery. I've had an M10 battery fail on me and it made the camera behave weird (partially functional). Maybe they'll let you try a different battery at the store, I've usually had good experiences at the leica stores.

Thanks for the tip here. We did try that at the store before sending the camera away. It is now in Wetzlar, most probably the whole shutter mechanism will be replaced. I'll update you guys on that.

Hello Schitzoide

Did you manage to get this fixed?

My M10-P has started doing the same thing.

Thanks

Simon

I had my M10R be unresponsive suddenly and I had to turn off and on again.

it did it a couple of times. At the same time I noticed I would be browsing photos on the SD card to save to my iPad and it would disconnect on its own.

I bought a new SD card (and a new reader just in case it was the cheap reader damaging the card) and the camera functions normally now.

Bad SD cards cause all sorts of problems.

Sometimes after i shoot in succession, no burst, i felt that my m10-r lags behind when previewing the images right after, like the big size files a bit too heavy to handle

I forget such phenomenon happened during my m10’s days

i used the sandisk extreme pro too

Thank you for the replies.

It sometimes happens when shooting in live view only. Turning it off and on seems to sort it. I have an M10 and and an M10-P. Its happened periodically with both bodies. I use sandisk extreme pro cards in both so potentially that could be the common link. I'll try another brand.

Thanks again

Simon

Absolutely so! The same thing happened to me when I moved from shooting my Sony A7IV with a Sony Tough card which I used switching to the M10-R bought recently; despite formatting the Sony card in-camera (Leica M 10-R), after a few shots the camera froze. However, as soon as I replaced the Sony Tough card with a Sandisk one everything was back to normal and working well! There seems to be an intolerance(?) between Leica M bodies and Sony tough cards 🤔. Do try to switch your Sony sd card

Interesting! It could be a non compatibility with Sony cameras then as my Sandisks were used in Sonys before.

Good morning, I reopen this th for the reason that my M10 purchased used gave a blocking problem when used with a viewer. I disconnected the battery and everything is back to normal. I use Lexar professional card (recommended by thorsen). I had 25% battery. I recharged the battery and updated the FW to the latest version. Seeking advice on whether to keep or attempt to return to store.
Thank you
Joseph

I posted a similar problem before. My M10-P will get laggy and stuck at opening LV but getting normal after a restart of the camera too, when the storage of my 128G SD-card goes over 50%. When the photos are backed up and removed (I didn't do formatting for several times), these issues go away.
