I owned Elmar-M 50 2.8. With filter and hood, even collapsed it was not so small. Then in locked position it was just too long. IMO.

But if you are OK with front element exposed to severe damages sooner or later, it is kind of compact lens.

Summarit-M 50 2.5 is perfect match for M10. It is coded, made for digital M lens. And it is cheap and not big lens lens in terms of Leica domain.

 

I'm not in M10 budget. For my little money I'm finding Jupiter-3 to be very small lens. And it is fine even @f1.5 on my M-E 220.

But this lens needs collimation for Leica (often) which is totally DIY. But some extra work, modification is required with J3 after re-shimming. More easy to collimate and same, if not more compact are late Jupiter-8.

With Jupiter-3 the older the better. With Jupiter-8 black it was possible to get lens in almost NOS and 1991 made. 

Those lenses are cheap. Under 100 USD for Jupiter-8 and under 200 USD for Jupiter-3.

Again, this is true in terms of the price cheap lens. Not Leica prices  .

 

Thanks for the suggestions, I certainly couldn’t live with the Elmar, too large extended and I guarantee my clumsy self would hit it hard again something. Wouldn't want to be collapsing and extending throughout the day either.

The summarit looks fantastic, I would probably go for this if I can find one for a good price on the used market, if not I’m leaning towards the 1.5 nokton.

I will research the Jupiter lenses so more, although the DIY element puts me off!

Fine by me. I also own CV 35 1.4 II and totally understand your move for compact RF lenses. Summarit-M 50 2.5 is really sweet 50 for no compromise and dinks Leica 50 on digital. You would have to pay more for it been Leica labeled, but it is so sweet lens. 

Warning. Never try Summarit-M 35 2.5 lens  .

Yes I have my Sony A7 with big and fast primes like the 85mm F1.4 G Master if I want pin sharp perfection. One of my favourites on that is the 40mm f1.2 Nokton FE which is the lens that was my gateway drug into Leica! 
 

Rangefinder is my fun/walk around camera so like to keep it as light and compact as possible.

Here in the UK lockdown eases on 12th April so will go to Leica Mayfair and check it out!

Compact yet good enough lenses can be Summarit-M lens line.

I use a pair of them plus 2.5/75 almost as compact but so light

2.5/35,  2.5/50 to have a balanced pair on M2

I prefer the 2.5 Summarit-M more compact (E39 filter size) over the 2.4 (E46 size)

I believe Leica has discontinued its Summarit lenses but stocks can still be found, eg for the 50 2.4 suggested above.

I would recommend giving serious consideration to this lens. Smooth, sharp and with gorgeous bokeh.

Here is a 35 Summilux V2 on the M3 and a 50 f2 Collapsible Summicron on an M8. I have found the 50 collapsible to be a small nice sized lens. Bought mine from KEH where is was listed as a "user". The lens has been excellent, everything was clean and images have been great. If buyin a 60+ year old lens I would recommend buying from a dealer, best chance of getting a good lens. Collapsed the back of the lens elements are only 6mm behind the mount, I have never had a problem mounting theis lens on the M8 collapsed.
