Yes Vieri, it’s “relatively” affordable.. but still we’re talking 1800 vs 3800 here :)

Well, not knowing how much you paid, I had no way to know :) However, compared to new, second-hand prices in shop are now very affordable, and you'll get a warranty - it's up to each of us to decide how much that is worth :)

Best regards,

Vieri

I agree.. IF this was going to be my only setup I would do just that.. buying from dealers with warranty! the S setup is something I don’t need at all since I have a full fledged setup with gfx 100s and a lot more from other brands!
just wanted the S for passion and the experience.. so I was really only looking for the bare minimum amount I wanted to pay! All I wanted was an s006 with one S lens but after the s006 died on me, I upgraded to 007 and now have 3 S lenses.. it’s a terrible habit and I make myself feel better by buying the cheapest yet functionally flawless gear 😁

Makes sense :) Enjoy your new lens then! Best,

I've happily purchased several pre-owned S lenses for excellent prices.  Several from eBay, two from a seller on GetDPI. They were all well-priced, well packaged and accurately described. The only issue I had was with one I'd purchased from a camera shop on eBay.  The condition was "like new" but the AF motor was not working.  Without fuss, the shop immediately refunded my purchase, sent the lens to Leica for repair, and then telephoned me several months later upon return from Germany, asking if I might still be interested in purchasing the lens for the bid price. I did, the lens was perfect, with a clean bill of health from Leica.

(As an aside, since I just had to send my S007 for a repair to Leica Germany, I decided it was an opportune time to send in several of my S lenses for prophylactic repair of the AF mechanism. Awaiting their return now. For those interested, the repair along with complimentary cleaning, lubrication and adjustment, etc for each lens was just under $300, with the exception of the S 24, which was $325. Something to consider when weighing the pros and cons of purchasing pre-owned).

I, as well, have gathered S-lenses from private sellers, Leica Miami, on ebay, etc. All lenses were delivered properly protected and with all papers, boxes, pouches etc. included. No problem. One seller claimed that the lens had a new focus motor, but I did't realise this wasn' t the case before 1+ year after the purchase. I didn' t brother to contact the seller (and the price was low, nevertheless), so I shipped the lens - together with all lenses with non-fixed motor - to Wetzlar for motor replacement. An added benefit to the Wetzlar shipment was that all lenses, as far as I can tell, returned focus calibrated and otherwise checked.

These days, S lenses are very affordable (relatively), and widely available (at least in my local), so it would make sense to buy from a reputable dealer rather than taking a chance on the bay or elsewhere. E.g., this is my trusted dealer's current selection: http://www.newoldcamera.com/Prodotti.aspx?Oper=PR&Marca=LEICA-S&Tipo=OB&Bottega=Usato

Something that might be of interest to members here is the discovery that this camera shop will not ship lenses to the United States. It's a shame as they have some lovely items, but alas, are unobtainable outside of Europe.

Sorry about that - I knew they shipped internationally, but didn't know that this didn't include the US :) Best regards,

Vieri

You could set yourself up with a MyUS.com | Shop US Stores & Ship Overseas account.

I wanted to buy a book from them, and their shipping to EU is about €50 and no amount of money will persuade them to ship to the US.  It's good to know internet can replace finding a friend in Milano and burdening them with shipping. As usual, ciuso is the word from the Italian 101 that comes to mind.:)
