ymc226 Posted March 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to process JPGs from an iPhone (for my mom) but remember when I was still using LR6, I didn't find a way to import JPGs. Is the current LR Classic amenable to importing iPhone pics?

stunsworth Posted March 26, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2021 No problem importing from an iPhone, but the phone must be connected and unlocked before it will appear as an ‘import from’ device.
zeitz Posted March 26, 2021 Share #4 Posted March 26, 2021 If you use a Mac, you can also use Image Capture.app to simply copy all the photos from your iPhone to a folder of your choice on your hard drive and work from them. Image Capture lets you avoid using Photos.
ymc226 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 26, 2021 Thanks for your help. Previously, I just emailed the JPG, dragged it to the desktop but could not get it to see the file.
jaapv Posted March 27, 2021 Share #6 Posted March 27, 2021 The file format of an iPhone is HEIF or HEVC. Are you exporting one of those and trying to open as JPG?

jaapv Posted March 27, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 27, 2021 Or, alternately, if you open and select the images in your camera roll, choose Export to Lightroom, then open Lightroom Mobile on your phone, they will be imported into Lightroom CC (not Classic) on all your devices automatically. You can then move them anywhere you want, in your case LR Classic, or edit them in LR, obviously.

Surely it’s just easier to connect the phone to the computer and press the import button in Lightroom.
jaapv Posted March 27, 2021 Share #10 Posted March 27, 2021 This works extremely efficiently, far simpler than describing the process. You only have to select/export to LR the photographs in your phone, open your LRmob, and they are there on all your devices. No rummaging around for cables, you don't need to start or even be near your computer. You can do it on location from anywhere in the world.
RoySmith Posted March 28, 2021 Share #11 Posted March 28, 2021 When I’ve taken a few shots on the iPhone I just use Airdrop to transfer them to the computer. No hunting for cables. LR CC Classic has no problem with the HEIC files.
