rsh Posted March 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone tried the 70-180 Apo Vario Elmarit R on the SL, SL2 or SL2-S. I know it is an uncompromisingly fabulous lens, but has anyone used it on the SL series cameras?
Advertisement Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Hi rsh, Take a look here Leica 70-180 Vario Apo Elmarit R on the SL2 or Sl2-S. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
darylgo Posted March 25, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2021 I tried it out for a short period. It is a beautifully made lens and quite sharp, I ultimately returned it because the weight made hand holding a difficult task. The 90-280mm is a larger lens but the IQ is off the charts good and it has the big advantage of optical stabilization. The adapter combination I used of L-M and R-M caused some vignetting, there are posts on forums that recommend the R-L adapter to avoid this issue. digitalfx Posted March 26, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2021 agree. I still have mine, its amazing but very heavy. For the SL2, the Leica SL options are better suited...especially the 90-280 which obviously adds AF and longer FL. Not to mention the IQ cant be beat. This post was take with this lens, and the previous photo as well. This guy love it. He says the feel is like you have all the primes from 70-180 in one lens. He use it with his SL. It should be a great performer wide open in all focal lengths and probably one of the best zoom lenses ever. But unfortunately that comes with a price. They are not so cheap though and little bit heavy around 1,8kg. Would love to try it one day for sure Hope this helps. I sold my 70-180 APO R in recent months, I now use the 90-280. I agree with Darylgo, the IQ is off the chart and the OIS is a game changer.
rsh Posted March 28, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted March 28, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am not unfamiliar with the weight as I had a complete R System in the past. Also, I know how good the lens is. I am interested in how it handles with the SL cameras for those who use it.
