AKW Posted March 24, 2021 Share #1 Â Posted March 24, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everybody, I would like to get a Super-Elmar 21 and I have a question regarding the start of production. If I remember correctly, then there was a problem that needed to be fixed. Do you remember what it was about? I tried to find information without success. Is it a thing that should be checked when buying a second hand lens? I think Leica will no longer agree to fix it for free. Thanks for help, Arto

Stein K S Posted March 24, 2021 Share #2  Posted March 24, 2021 Hi I was one of the first customers in Norway to receive a copy when this lens was released. I had had it a week or so when Lieca store recalled it without any explenation. Never got it back, moneys refunded after about 6 months... I then ¨ learned¨ that the ¨problem¨ was too thin walls in the focussing tube causing potentially variable resistance when barrel  ¨squeezed¨ during focussing. During my one week of ownership I did not notice anything. I guess Leica succeded in recalling most copies, however, the faulty lens can be identified by having a thinner focussing barrel/tube (I refer to the tube were the number 21 is seen...) than the current one, the current one having a bit more belly-like or wider focussing tube. Probably a collectibles today...

Don't worry it must cost a small fortune as it is a collectible now. The one to look for is at right below. Welcome, dear visitor! Both pics are from Leica. Mere P-shoping i guess. Edited March 25, 2021 by lct
