I believe .72 OVF is roughly equivalent to 28mm and .58 to 24mm.

I'm seeing a guy about an M6 TTL .58 this weekend so I should have a better idea after comparing what I see through the M6 VF versus an external VF I use with my 24mm Elmarit.

I wear glasses so the .58VF is the only practical option for using my 35mm lenses comfortably. My 35mm Summicron will be parked on this semi-permanently, I think.

Awesome. If it's not asking so much, please post here a snapshots of how it looks like the OVF of a 0.58x with a 35mm on. I'm very curious.

I shoot often with sunglasses on when I'm using a DSLR. I did it all my life. But with my M10, I can't. It's awful. So the idea of using it with spectacles (that sometimes use) and/or sunglasses is very attractive to me. Let me know if you struggle to focus and how you feel the overall 0.58x experience. That would be great.

 Will do.

If you look at the VF magnification comparison photos online, the .58 focus patch looks a little smaller, but I think it'll be a worthwhile trade off if it means I can use my 35mm without having to roll my eyes around the finder.

Thank you!

Yes, a focus patch "unchanged" (or almost) would be  very welcome.

I used the wrong words, yes slower I mean. More secure, maybe.

In my Nikon FM I can confirm the film is loaded well, because the rewind lever is turning when I load the next frame. How does it work with Leica? Is there a way to confirm the film was loaded correctly?

Exactly the same

Hello,

please allow me to chime in.

I just had a look into a MP 0,58 finder and its 35 window frame is larger than the 50mm window frame of a  0,72  finder.

It is worth noting that the 35 frame of the  M2 has 4 plain lines with open corners but in a MP 0,58 finder the 35 window bottom line is gone, leaving space for the leds, with two small lines near the corners. I believe in a meterless  M-A with a 0,58 finder, the 35 frame has 4 plain lines.

Shooting a 35mm lens with glasses is easier with a 0,58 finder.

Best, Jean-Marc.

Hello Jean-Marc,

there is no x0.58 M-A,

but in x0.72 VF of M-A the 35mm four lines are there

my post #3

Hello Arnaud,

thanks for claryfying the M-A. Where do we find the 0,58 finder  with 4 plain lines 28mm and 35mm windows from the picture I added?

I have a M2 fitted with a 0,58 MP finder and the bottom line is open in both 28 and 35mm windows.

Best, Jean-Marc.

If I understand well, in general, a 0.58x VF w/ a 35mm, it looks like in between 50mm w/ 0.72x and 35mm w/ 0.72x ?

I need to try it and see if it worths.  But it sounds very interesting

Yes, correct.

Having a camera fitted with a 0,58 finder is costly, about the price of a M2 nowadays.

I guess the best option is to buy a regular M2  for the uncluttered 35 and 50  frames .

The reason I’ve been looking for a .58 M6 TTL is because 35mm frameline in a .58VF looks similar to the 50mm lines in a .85VF.
I have my 50mm Summicron exclusively on my M6 TTL .85 with an MP VF that I was fortunate to get rather cheaply a few years back.

I studied a little more today, at I arrive (so far) to the conclusion that, not talking about prices, these would be great options for me. In not a particular order:

  • M2
  • M2-R
  • M4
  • M4-P (masking 75-90-135 frame lines)
  • M6 Classic 0.58x (not sure what to mask)

And so far, to be honest, the sexiest is the M4. It's the one that could match needs, features I want and interesting aesthetics.

Time will tell. But I know much more today than last week. Thank you LUF 🙏

Black Paint M2 bodies were produced in tiny numbers (relatively speaking) which makes them 'collectible' and therefore far more expensive to acquire but there are a gerat many re-paints out there such as the body you've already looked at for $1,799.

Hey Philips

I've lost somehow my reply for you a few days ago 🤦‍♂️ Not sure why. Anyway ... Thank you for your message and sorry for the delay. Awesome snapshot of you!!!

Do you still have and use the camera? How does it feel to shoot an M2 w/ a 35mm?

And for last, are you ok with the film loading?

Thank you so much for the info. Wow, not so many units as expected. And now I see why the M4 black chrome is so expensive

For me it feels the most natural and intuitive camera/lens combination of all, perfect for general street/travel photography.

But others will disagree so you need to try it for yourself.
