Lee997 Posted March 23, 2021 Share #1  Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi as the sun is starting to show again and we will once again start to venture outside it seemed a good idea to dust off my CL however during a walk in the wood’s accompanied by my CL I found that when I tried to view using the play button it’s only showing in my viewfinder? I tried a few times and on occasion the screen did work! are there some settings for this or is it something more sinister? in the settings I do have the EVF-LCD set to auto, if I change to LCD  the LCD switches on. But does not in auto. any help appreciated? Rgds Lee. Edited March 23, 2021 by Lee997
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Hi Lee997, Take a look here CL viewfinder screen auto changeover possible error?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ruskkyle Posted March 23, 2021 Share #2  Posted March 23, 2021 My tip would be to give the viewfinder a sharp blow or two. It’s usually just the sensor being blocked by a speck of dust.
jaapv Posted March 23, 2021 Share #3  Posted March 23, 2021 Not a good idea, in fact, a very bad idea. The reason that auto-EVF-LCD does not work properly is usually either a dirty ocular (use a small cotton tip and some lens cleaner for the "church window" at the top where the eye sensor resides) or, if the problem persists, the sensor may have shifted inside the camera. That means that hitting the camera will only make things worse or even shift a sensor that was properly aligned, just dirty. Mine turned out to be shifted shortly after purchase, probably by some knock in use, and as this is a fault by outside force, it is not covered by guaranty. Leica managed to reposition the sensor instead of replacing it, which saved me some money. However, the problem recurred a few months ago. I just leave it as it is, as auto-switch is not part of the manner in which I use the camera anyway. It is a neat party trick, though.
ruskkyle Posted March 23, 2021 Share #4  Posted March 23, 2021 @jaapv I don’t mean a physical blow, but a puff of air!
lct Posted March 23, 2021 Share #5  Posted March 23, 2021 Been using this blower for 3 years with no problem at all. The last thing i would do is touching the glass with anything but air if i can avoid it but it's just me.  Welcome, dear visitor! tommonego@gmail.com Posted March 23, 2021 Share #6 Â Posted March 23, 2021 (edited) My CL had a sensor problem a couple of months after I bought it, I seemed to be cleaning the little area every time I used the camera, just got worse. A couple of emails to Leica NJ and I sent it down, it was a faulty sensor, some how dirt had gotten into the EVF port. Haven't had a problem since, 2 years, hardly ever clean the sensor anymore. AllanC Posted May 10, 2021 Share #7 Â Posted May 10, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am having the exact same issue. I have cleaned my viewfinder, but it makes no difference. I can see through the EVF just fine, but the image does not appear on the LCD as it does on my Q2. If I press "Menu" I get the menu in the EVF when I have the camera set to "Auto." It's not the end of the world or anything, but it's damned annoying. Anyone have ay meaningful suggestions?
tommonego@gmail.com Posted May 10, 2021 Share #8 Â Posted May 10, 2021 Yeah as we said the sensor has either moved or dirt has gotten inside, probably means a trip to Leica, NJ. Mine was on warranty and it took a month to get back. Luckily I had an M3 that got more use than it was used to. Â Â Â
jaapv Posted May 11, 2021 Share #9 Â Posted May 11, 2021 Mine went back to Leica once for this fault -paid repair- Now it reappeared. I'm leaving it, as it does not impact my use, for me it is more of a party trick. I have the camera set to EVF Extended. It is clearly the weak spot in the design. I have the EVF/LCD settings under the Fn button.
