Hi guys,

I picked up to Leica batteries for my CL. Yes I got the branded ones, this thread is not to go into the reasons why that doesn't make sense.

That being said, there are differences between what Leica offers for this, as far as a fairly important accessory:

Version 18729 is presumably older. It is marked with "Version <<U>>" (apparently, there is 18728 version E and 18794 version TK). The printing on the battery itself is silver. It actually comes with a clear-plastic cover for the battery. This protects the battery contacts while it is shuffling around in a pouch or pocket.

Version 19500 is presumably newer, and has no additional version markings. The printing on the battery is flat grey. It does not come with a battery cover, instead only including a resealable zip-lock pouch.

Obviously, the battery cover is preferred for travel and storage. Is there any way I can get one by itself?

Given the different versions available (4 total), is there anything I should look out for, when it comes to using them in my CL?

I simply bought resealable plastic bags in the right size on eBay. It turned out there were 100 for 2 Euro, I use them for everything now and for carrying batteries on flights, which is a legal requirement.

Just buy Sigma batteries BP-51 for DP Quattro or fp.
they are exactly the same as Leica or Panasonic version but way cheaper.
And sigma version comes with a nice faux leather case
All three are made by Panasonic.

Only way i know of is getting a cheap Chinese battery coming with such a cover. My DSTE batteries have one which proves very handy. "DSTE DMW-BLC12"

Forget the little plastic covers. Think Tank Photo makes a little accessory case for batteries which is exactly the right size for a pair of Leica CL batteries. See https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/859449-REG/Think_Tank_968_DSLR_Battery_Holder_2.html

It's about $11 from B&H. I've been using this for years and years, various different batteries fit nicely in this case.

See-through plastic zip-beg is much more airport-worker friendly.

And budget friendly.

Glad I don't travel to Nairobi very frequently. :)

I flew to San Diego and crossed into Mexico yesterday. No one even bothered to look at my camera, all they wanted to see was my iPhone and iPad. They completely ignored the three Li-Ion backup batteries in my bag... Go figure!
