Leica MP LED Exposure indicator issues

Hello Everyone, 

6 days ago I purchased a brand spanking new Leica MP.  When taking it out for my first roll i noticed something very particular.  

The exposure indicator LED that reads correct exposure would randomly not light up.  As you know you have  > O < 

After an arbitrary amount of shots, the O will no longer show up and when the camera is reading the correct exposure no LED would light up.  I have attached a video.

I own an M6, M9, M9MM and this never has happened.

 

Here is what I tried and the same thing happens.  

3 other lenses

2 new batteries

 

Has anyone else experienced this?

It must be disappointing to see this on a new MP. 
I cannot think of a reasonable explanation as to why this is happening other than that the center led is out.

In the video I can see the dot illuminated by the arrows but it definitely should be brighter than what it is doing. 
I think a visit to the vender is in order.

Alarming to read about such issues on brand new Leica kit. Take it back to your dealer, ask for a fast repair OR replacement. This is simply not acceptable on something with the word 'perfection' in the title. Though I appreciate this word relates to mechanicals, and not electronics.

Yes it does look like a fault unfortunately. I've tried with my MP to see if I can fool it at all but the centre LED is either very bright at the correct exposure, then less bright one stop +/- , then off at two stops.

Since it is intermittent (sometimes works) it may well be a cold solder joint or similar on the center LED connection. This could very easily get through Q/A testing, as it may have worked fine when they tested it, Could also be affected by temperature and handling.

Provide the video of the problem when returning it for service to prove the issue, as otherwise it might work fine when they check it out.

So now the real question is, where to go from here?  

Is a repair acceptable?  Should it be a replacement as the MP is less than 14 days old? 

The filtration is real after spending 6K on mechanical perfection.

Let me ask you this: Would you pay the same price to buy a new vs factory refurbished camera?

You obviously ask for a replacement. Otherwise you open yourself to long repair times, back and forth, shipping costs, plus the very real possibility that the issue is not fixed permanently, or that there might be another issue with the camera's electronics and the dim leds are the symptom. Your camera classifies as DOA (Dead On Arrival - faulty in your case) and in pretty much every country you're entitled a full refund (with shipping costs). If they can replace it with a brand new one, you could do that. Or use the refund to buy from another shop.

Faulty on first use = DOA = replacement, as @giannis said, at least in Australia. However, the consumer laws will vary in each country. 

Good luck! MP is my favourite (and only) metered Leica M.

Got an update from Leica and they are considering this camera DOA, so they will be replacing it.  I am totally relieved and very satisfied with this!

Hi friends,

It happened to me with my Leica M9P. I bought it second hand and the seller told me it didn't happen to him (I trust him). And most of times some leds indicating speed (when automatic speed) don't display. I don't bother it but I would prefer to solve it. I don't know what to do because I suspect Leica official repair service will be too expensive and I don't trust no official repair services.
