Would you like a Pancake M lens?

Yeah that would be nice, but the summarit  f2.5 was quite compact already wasnt it? Im more than happy of its performance for my needs

Are you talking about as compact as the ms optic lenses? Compact vs IQ would be compromise wouldnt it?

An updated f2.8 or even an even f3.5 would be nice 35mm to walk around with. The trouble with smaller compacts is the handling and sometimes ingress of dust when the lens is collapsed. The vm 50mm f3.5 was reported to have good IQ so something like a that as a 35mm would be nice.

Still waiting for the next new compact 35mm. Most will be satisfied the apo 35mm atm...

I had Color Skopar 35 2.5 PII. It was next to pancake and still normal kind of handling lens. Except, every time I was checking aperture after few minutes, it was off :)

I had one too and really loved it except for the dumb aperture ring!  Sometimes it seems like a stiff breeze or  gnat flying past the lens would change the aperture setting. I really wish Cosina would fix the aperture ring...maybe just get rid of the stupid bat wings and have a normal knurled ring that required a little more effort to move...then the 35mm Color-Skopar PII VM  would be a fantastic lens.

Consider older Canon 25 and 28mm lenses. I have the 25 f3.5 a very nice lens on film and my go to lens on my M8, I don't have a full frame Leica. The rear of the lens protrudes 10mm short enough to be used on a digital CL. The focus knob, similar to my 50 Summicron is easy to operate. Nikon also made a 25 f4 I had for a while that was shorter than the Canon, a little maore rare so more expensive. My only complaint is using it with gloves on my hands.

Another suggestion is the 35 Summilux pre asph, but going through this thread it may not be pancake enough. But it is similar in size to the 35 Summarons.

I had all three versions. Optically, original LTM version is not different from PII M version. And it was less prone to aperture shift due to its construction.

If you really want a pancake lens you should start with a screw thread Leica body, then put a 35mm Elmar or Summaron on it. Starting with an M size body you already have something larger than a “Pancake” camera.

Indeed "Pancake" lenses already exist on film but the IIIg is not thinner than the M10 if memory serves me well so i'm not sure what actual difference it would make on digital. Also both Elmar and Summaron 35/3.5 lenses would produce mushy corners on the M10 at full aperture i suspect.  Better une a crop camera with such legacy lenses on digital. This adapted Tessar 35/3.5 is my favorite but a modern Elmar would be interesting certainly.

For several years I had a 25 Nikkor on a IIIc, small pocket sized. My best photo with it was in infrared.

I think a true pancake leica lens of decent quality would be a million times more interesting than the leica apo with its convoluted close focus or the massive voigtlander apo but others seem to like the big lenses.

Must admit i only really understood the value of small lenses after buying a voigtlander 40mm f1.4 nokton and the amazing 28mm f5.6 summaron reincarnation.

I like pancake lenses. The Hologon is really fun to shoot with. Takes a little practice to keep your fingers out of the frame.

Funleader M mount 18mm f/8 ?

May work well with higher MP camera which one could crop it to aspc to cut out some vignetting .
