It baffles my mind how all these impression and comparison threads are all just talk and no photos. Why? Is it all just fashion nowadays? Go out and photograph, then open a thread and show some comparisons.

Check out this other discussion: Acuity comparison of 35 Summicron APO-M vs 35 Summicron ASPH vs 35 Summilux ASPH

As far as I am concerned, I take a lot of photos with all these lenses and even with the APO since I have it, but the forum dissuades me to post them. The weight limit is too complicated. I have to export, then use an extra software to reduce the size. And then its one photo per post. And then it doesnt even look good. So I just dont post. I take photos, I make my mind on what I see, and then I express it here with words, that are unlimited, unlike photos.

I assume you use Lightroom to develop your raw files?

Does something so simple baffle you? Really?

Anyway, look at the screenshot of the weather situation. This is why I’m not able to go out to do the comparisons.

If you want to see some images shot with the lens, feel free to look at the image thread linked here, post 26 onwards.

If none of this is upto your satisfaction or liking, feel free to ignore these threads 🤷‍♂️

Yes. And the Jpeg Mini to reduce the size. When I do it directly in Lightroom, sometimes its under 1.9, sometimes it's not. Such a hassle. Its a photo forum. They should let us post better photos, even if its for paying members only. I would pay for that.

Simply resize to 2048px long edge and put it on 75% quality. Will easily be under the max of 1mb.

Actually, it wasn't even before, in 2015. It seems you were waiting for an AA? How did you like that one ? Did it dethrone the Pre Fle, and is the pre FLE still your favourite 6 years later ?

Also, interesting to see you have a silver copy. I'm having a little conversation with @lct about this. It seems the silver copies dont exhibit any terrible focus shift. Does yours suffer from it ?

I got the AA, loved it. Got a few more.
Glad I did, the prices have doubled since.
It’s almost like the 35mm equivalent of the Noctilux 50/1 in terms of the overall look.

If it’s the cinematic look that appeals to you, both these lenses deliver. I can’t really pick between the preFLE and the AA. Hard to explain without getting esoteric, the 35AA adds an ethereal element to the images.
I started image threads for the 50/1.2 as well as the 35AA, they’re probably buried deep under ...

Can’t say in all these years i’ve noticed it enough to stand out ... and I’ve shot many thousands of images with this delightful lens

Its my little tick but I have to buy the lenses in both black and chrom ... and neither copy exhibited terrible focus shift. My theory is that if you stop down the aperture and then focus and shoot, the chances of focus shift are minimized. Atleast seems to work for me.

A bit off topic ... I traded one 35AA with Thorsten, another 35AA with JMF (mint and fully boxed), sold two to a German dealer I know very well (mint and fully boxed), another to a guy in Asia and the final one to a friend in the US. I still have 4 copies and will never trade or sell them. Similar stories with the original 50/1.2. The copies I kept are the sharpest ones I found over the years.

It is said the be the only one every made. A unique piece. It was a prototype and they decided to only produce the black as it was too expensive. Then in turn, they reduced their 2000 copy target to only 1000 for the black version as even this one was too expensive to produce.

This is after discussion with renowned collectors ... no consensus that this is an original

The numbers are also suspect ... around 1600 were supposedly manufactured. Will look up my archives for the exact numbers.

It wasn’t just the expense, it was also the expertise. They couldn’t successfully grind the 2 aspherical elements by hand and cement them together resulting in many samples being rejected. Very few employees were skilled enough to be involved in the manufacture of this lens.

The Leica Miami boys at Red Dot Forum mentioned your original f1.2 in their recent video discussion (at about 10:20)....

Thank you for sharing the link ... due to a personal situation I could not send the lens to David and Josh over in time for the talk above. Nice to see the story with Peter Karbe was still mentioned
