I had some positive news today. A friend heard my tale of woe and offered to sell me his 50 pre-asph v3. It's  silver so it's 380g, heavier than the black that I wanted, but at this point I can live with that. He's sending it to the CLA guy, and if it checks out and has no lens separation or other issues I'll buy it. I'm sure he'll give me a good price on it, but I'm curious what you think it's worth if it checks out?

I've never used the silver one but have had a titanium version (so, also the brass-housed / heavier type same as silver). it was absolutely beautiful .   I'd go for it without hesitation !

Very nice! That was a very quick turnaround of events!

I've mostly used my 35mm for cars. Today I tried with my 50mm, wide open. It worked very well.

Lux 50mm v3

ISO 400 film (EI at 200 )

wide open ( if memory serve me well )

It looks grainy ( will exam the film when get it back from local lab 🧪 maybe try wet print whenever possible )

Verdict - the latest lens is no good. Here's what Ye (the CLA guy) says:

The lens has the typical optical cement deterioration problem, beyond cleaning.  Leica already ran out of parts a long time ago. The lens is only good for parts.

I think the fates have decided that this glorious lens just isn't for me. I've read all about the new remake classic line of this lens, seen some pics, and IMO it doesn't come close to creating magic as I've seen in this thread, so I'm going to pass on it.

As Mick Jagger wisely said: you don't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need :)

Perhaps the 'magic' (describe - what magic?) comes from the flaws Ye identifies☺️
