PeterBrandt Posted February 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a retired Commercial photo'g, work 45 years in advertising and fashion in NYC, with Nikons, Hasselblads, and a 4x5 Cambo. This Leica has lightened my carry everywhere load !! My V-Lux 114 (now 5 years old) used to zoom from 25mm to 1600mm, something changed in my settings and now goes only to 800mm, WHAT went wrong? However; I found that its best to stop zooming at 1000mm, above that the interpolation is too noticeable. Now, in the 'P' program I get up to 400mm, with the red 'A' program the zoom extends to 800mm. I have attached a screen-capture of 2 photos in my new book "Action Along the Hudson River" that indicates the zoom extreme. First picture is of the LCD screen verifying the zoom extent, and the 2nd how that was used in my book ANYONE have an Idea in which program and/or settings I can get back....to the full range. Advertisement Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Hi PeterBrandt, Take a look here What happened to my Zoom ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted February 20, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2021 I don't have this camera so I can't check but my suspicion is that zooming beyond 800 mm is achieved by digital zoom (as opposed to optical zoom) so it is the camera itself cropping the picture so to further enlarge it, which would account for the unacceptable interpolation you mention. It sounds like you might have inadvertently switched the digital zoom function off or moved to a mode where the digital zoom is not available. The manual should indicate how to switch it back on if it has been turned off. Pete.
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted February 20, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2021 Mine is in the other room, but I;m sure it is optical to 400mm Pete. I think you are right about setting in menu though. I'll dig the pdf manual out in a bit...
wda Posted February 20, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2021 My guess too. You can only get digital zoom with jpeg capture. That is the root cause of your problem, I'm sure.
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted February 20, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2021 Manual Page 197: When using the i.Zoom the maximum magnification ratio is limited to 2x. That would be 800mm I think. See Page 196 - turn off Intelligent Zoom: Menu -> Rec -> I.Zoom -> On/Off Hope that helps?
stuny Posted February 21, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2021 Graham is correct. The additional zoom between 800 & 1600 is digital zoom, cropping from all four edges. The iZoom has been with us on most PanaLeica cameras, at least back to the Vlux4 and the Dlux 109, but possibly further.
