My experience is that the built-in lens hood ensures that it is nicely compact.

One of the reasons for me to purchase this one. Small and easy to carry.

This is my only 28 MM summicron, so i don't know how it compares to the normal one.

Concerning flare: i didn't use it that much until now, due to Corona and the winter weather i have Little chance of going outside and try it out.

Does the retractable hood make  28mm summicron Safari feel much smaller or not a big deal?

Any advantages over current 28mm cron?

maybe the retractable hood is small and cute but doesnt does not have much function, flare........

Thanks for posting this question.  I'm considering a 28mm summicron, and I like the retractable hood for the size factor and the convenience.  Whether it works as well to reduce flare....I would think the regular hood in the new (second) version may be better, but probably not by much.  How the safari looks on a black camera is subjective.  Silver/chrome color works OK, so I'd personally not be bothered by the safari green color.  I'll probably try each version at a Leica seller shop before I buy.

Some online vendors have apps that let you try on shoes to see how they look on your feet.   You just aim your phone over your feet and you can see the fit and look.  Wouldn't it be cool if Leica could use that approach so buyers can "see" the lenses and hoods on their cameras?

I have been considering the 28mm Summicron for some time, I am pretty keen on the retractible hood as opposed to a screw on hood. I love my 50 Summilux hood and I missed it when I switched to the black chrome 50mm summilux. So much so that I went back to the contemporary Summilux...

Unsure about the Safari edition and I am wondering if it would be reasonable to assume that Leica may make the retractible hood version standard..?
