Hi,

My M9M has the corrosion issue and I can get the sensor replaced for $1700.00.  I am trying to decide if I should proceed with the service?   I do love the look of the M9M,  it has a lush film-like quality that is unique in my opinion. Used values are very low, if I decided to sell the camera I'd be lucky to get my money back. It kills me that a $8K camera has fallen in value so far... it get it, it's digital, time marches on.  Still, the M9M has a look which you'd think would command better value.

Venting a bit here, but also curious for advice. Leica also offers trade-in options, but none of the offers are appealing to me.

Thanks in advance.

Though one! I read somewhere that Kolari can fix that problem for $1000, have you tried with them? I think their price is more reasonable...

Also you can check with Maxmax they do the repairs too - I would imagine the costs are there.

$1700 is so expensive it makes you really questioning if hang on and maybe get a new body at some point?

I loved the M9M I had my sensor replaced as soon as corrosions was happening years go. I sold the camera few weeks ago and opted for the M246 which I'm very happy with.

According to Kolaivision's website, they do not repair the M Mono.

There is a company in the UK that can do the Monochrom but that may be unrealistic for you in the USA, and also given the current pandemic it could quite easily take 6 months to get it sorted, who knows? might be time to replace it through the exchange system?

I've just bought a mint MM with a replaced sensor (one of the last) under Leica warranty still. It wasn't cheap.... (a bit under half the cost of a new M10M seems to be the going rate here for equivalent MM) - but I like the rendering. Looking back some of my best images were taken with my MM when I had one 5 years ago.

Update on MM1 corrosion repair that I received this morning.... it’s coming have patience...

Good morning

Thank you for your email. We are currently working on a solution for this issue and as at date this is still work in progress in terms of costings and quality of results. Due to the current lockdown we are working at a lower staffing level and therefore things are taking a little longer than normal. Once we have the results we shall make sure a  post goes onto the forum once we are happy with the results.

Kind regards

Hmm... to my knowledge there is no significant variation in parts between an M9 and an M9-P or M-E.  I wonder why this policy?

From correspondence with repair shops- the M9P and M Monochrom cover glass requires much more aggressive measures to remove from the sensor (compared with the M9)  due to the method used to cement it.
